I love the simplicity and effectiveness of this ad. Even just browsing through these ads online the word search immediately grabbed my attention. I think this was very cleverly put together and very effective for those who know what WD-40 is or have heard of it before. Those who don’t are still drawn in but may not be sure what they’re looking at. I like the idea of everything being black and white and just having the logo in color in the top corner but I think that if there was a picture of the product (a can of WD-40) more people might be able to relate. However this might take away from the craftiness of the advertisement and may not draw in as many viewers if they already know who the ad is for. This ad is also effective because even those who already know what WD-40 is and use it commonly may learn a few more uses from the list given. This is a great way to incorporate useful and otherwise ‘boring’ information in a way that still brings creativity to the ad and doesn’t immediately turn the viewer away (as another ad might if they just listed a lot of uses for their product).
