Send My Stuff To Space

Historic NY Times Issue Launched into Space

Description

A new British-born company has launched a vintage copy of the New York Times into space to mark the 54th anniversary of a landmark moment in man’s conquest of the Moon.

With interest in outer space burgeoning as the USA and China race each other to see who can achieve another manned moon mission first, marketing start-up Send My Stuff To Space sent an original NYT issue from 6th February 1971, featuring the iconic headline “TWO ASTRONAUTS WALK AND WORK ON SURFACE OF MOON 4 1/2 HOURS,” into the cosmos.

The flight, complete with an onboard film camera, took off from Kingston, New York, and soared to an altitude of 124,239 feet, offering a breathtaking view of the historic issue of the paper with the Earth below it in tribute to the enduring legacy of space exploration. The mission concluded with a safe landing two hours and 37 minutes later near Greenville, MA, having captured stunning 4K footage and imagery of the paper in celebration of one of the most pivotal moments in human history. Crucially, Send My Stuff To Space carried out the whole stunt sustainably.

Send My Stuff To Space, which was founded in the UK and has its launch site in Kingston, New York, is the first and only service of its kind in North America and has already shown its worth to brands, flying products including Goldfish crackers, Canterbury sneakers, K18 hair products, Nerds candy, San Pellegrino drinks and more into the stratosphere. It aims to revolutionize advertising with sustainable near-space launches.

Operating primarily out of upstate New York, the company sends products into the upper stratosphere to heights of up to 130,000 feet using hydrogen-filled high-altitude balloons. The innovative service captures breathtaking 4K footage of products or even personal photos against the backdrop of Earth's curvature and the vastness of space, creating unforgettable content for brands seeking to elevate their campaigns or for people seeking an out-of-this-world gift for loved ones. They even have a school space program which helps pupils of all ages carry out science experiments in space or send school mascots beyond the outer reaches of our planet.

Send My Stuff To Space was founded by brothers Harry and Jack Spring after they had a brainwave drinking in a local pub just three years ago. Today, their company boasts hundreds of successful launches for global household names like Oreo, Mastercard, Movember and Dragon Ball Z, offering a fully insured and FAA-compliant service.

Harry, who began the business alongside his brother at age 23, explained: “We wanted to create something truly unique, and the upper stratosphere is the perfect stage for brands to stand out. Not only does this approach provide incredible visuals that are out of this world, but it also delivers measurable results, with clients seeing up to 4.1 times greater click-through rates and 2.8 times more revenue generated from their campaigns.”

Unlike traditional space advertising concepts, Send My Stuff To Space uses hydrogen-filled balloons rather than rockets—a sustainable alternative with a renewable production process. All launch vehicles are reusable and made from recycled materials, and the biodegradable latex balloons used degrade naturally, minimizing environmental impact.

Fellow co-founder Jack, 28, added: “Our commitment to sustainability is non-negotiable. From using hydrogen to recovering and reusing nearly all our materials, we ensure that every launch is as eco-friendly as possible.”
