CBF presents “Golden Roots”

Campaign Overview:
For Black Awareness Day, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) launches “Golden Roots,” a campaign unveiling the African heritage of Vini Jr., the world-renowned footballer. By tracing Vini Jr.’s ancestry to the Tikar tribe of Cameroon through AfricanAncestry.com, the initiative celebrates Afro-Brazilian pride and resilience while addressing the erasure of African lineage due to slavery and racism.

Revealing Vini Jr.’s Ancestral Roots in Salvador

During the Brazil vs. Uruguay match, CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues and Vini Jr.’s father will present a certificate confirming his African ancestry.

Inspirational Film

A broadcast feature showcasing Afro-Brazilian ancestry, the resilience of Black people, and Vini Jr.’s role as a global symbol of resistance. It will air during the game and on social media following the revelation.

Tribute at CBF Headquarters

The CBF building in Rio de Janeiro will display an image of Vini Jr., alongside the Brazilian and Cameroonian flags, with the message: “United by the Best Player in the World.”
