It is impossible to begin to learn that which one thinks one already knows.
The key is to keep company only with people who uplift you, whose presence calls forth your best.
Remember that no talent, no self-denial, no brains, no character, are required to set up in the fault-finding business. Your time is too precious to be sacrificed in wasted days combating the menial forces of hate, jealously, and envy. Guard your fragile life carefully. Only God can shape a flower, but any foolish child can pull it to pieces.

The farther west we drove [to California, fall 1963], the more Pop everything looked on the highways. Suddenly we all felt like insiders because even though Pop was everywhere—that was the thing about it, most people still took it for granted, whereas we were dazzled by it—to us, it was the new Art. Once you “got” Pop, you could never see a sign the same way again.

It’s not our neighbor.
The ghost is you.
Don’t you see.
All work and no play.
You need passion dad.
Don’t you see?
You’re the ghost dad.
You’re the ghost.

That keep the word of promise to our ear,
And break it to our hope.
