its an ad for people in advertising, not for people watching it. Who cares what tests say about advertising? Get over it, I wouldn't make an ad out of it, It doesn't sell a car to me, and finally, having a car that everybody loves is certainly not an attractive proposition, i mean, who on earth wants to be everybody?
Ever hear of a Hipster? Of course if something is cool, people are going to want it. I think it works quite well for the product.
It's an ad for the target.
VW Beetle sells to happy, fun, outgoing people. A diverse group of individuals with a spirit and lifestyle that binds them together. Not age, nor location or even race. Happiness and fun light spirits are universal and the target will connect perfectly with this spot. Well done.
