Subaru: Pure performance

Average: 8 (49 votes)

Subaru Canada hopes people will “flip out” over it’s new, animated flipbook-style television spot, “Pure Performance” that recently launched across Canada. To demonstrate the performance and power of the new WRX STI, DDB Canada’s Toronto office created a real, flipbook or zoetrope that comes to life only when the vehicle passes by.

Heh, really nice idea. I felt like they didn't really know what to put in the story itself though (the animation), that felt kinda irrelevant. But I love the idea, something new :)

Ripping off Starship Troopers' aliens in the guise of a flipbook does Not good advertising make. This whole thing smacks of 'can't be bothered thinking further' and 'let's go back to that first, ridiculous, nonsensical idea' - heartening to see some clients can still throw good money after bad concepts.

This says nothing, delivers nothing, and to hark back to the Starship Troopers theft, I'd say it's about 13 years late for a whole lotta nothing.

In the vicious world of carvertising consider this already forgotten.

Done. I dont remember the brand, but it was also for a car, It showed a man drawing a dancing girl all around the walls of the city and then he took her daughter for a ride. Sorry.

Nice idea but with all do respect I'm left saying "So what?" This execution could be done with any car. I don't have any reason to go out and buy this car.

cool idea. shot well. my problem is with the animation. what does a giant robot crab have to do with a WRX? seems juvenile. a WRX is not a kids car. its a serious piece of automotive machinery. couldn't the animation have been more meaningful?

thats all.

This reminds me of the old saw why do dogs lick their balls? Because they can. Why is it a big deal that pictures are mounted on a wall and a car--could be any car--drives up to a speed that matches the speed of the camera. I fail to see why to even bother.
