This ESPN commercial is excellent. I was laughing the whole time! I think by using humor it really keeps the audience engaged. I have never thought of what it would be like to be named Michael Jordan and now I sure am glad I am not named that. I couldn’t imagine letting everyone down that was expecting to actually meet or see the “real” Michael Jordan.
The interesting thing about this commercial is that the man named Michael Jordan is most likely older than the actual Michael Jordan everyone thinks of. If this is the case then the gentleman can’t even blame his parents for all of the shame he has felt for most of his life.
Now I am named after a professional athlete and he was very popular in the city of Chicago as well but my full name does not match up. My middle name is Ryne because Ryne Sandberg was my dad’s favorite baseball player as well as the favorite player of many Chicagoans in the 80’s and 90’s. This isn’t nearly as awful as being named after the greatest NBA player of all-time!
I think this commercial does a great job of showing the emotions that someone goes through when possibly meeting their favorite athlete and then being let down. Throughout the commercial you can see people’s eyes light up as they hear his name and then let out a soft sigh or simple “oh” as they look and see that it isn’t who they thought. “It’s not crazy, it’s sports” is one of my favorite sayings and I use it all the time when I’m watching sports with my girlfriend.
