Interesting that a TV show dedicated to brilliantly critiquing Western cultural values - including mass junk-food consumption - is now in bed with one of the worst offenders.
Ironic, no?
Okay, start the torrent of hate folks…
indeed...
anyway, good to see a fat guy in a burger king ad.
Yeah I agree, now you know what you'll look like if you eat too much burger king...

Why are you alleged advertising people/fanboys upset with advertising? This is what we do. "How dare the ad agencies do there job"
We're not upset with advertising G3k, we're upset at Matt Groenig and co. for joining so overtly with a corperation they often target - it takes the postmodern irony to a whole new (and frankly disturbing) level.
Um, no.
Groening pokes fun at corporate America, but they've never been overtly against it. Not the same way, say, Michael Moore is.
So now they've got a joint promo with Burger King? Nothing ironic about it. Homer Simpson drools over Whoppers, and we laugh - but we laugh WITH him, not AT him. He's as much an everyman hero as he is a figure of fun. That's what's brilliant about the Simpsons - it parodies anything and everything, but it's an AFFECTIONATE parody. Meaning it celebrates those very same things at the same time. It's both send-up AND homage. Which would be clear to anyone who knows anything about it.
Try trading in your holier-than-thou cynicism for a clue next time.
The simple fact is that The Simpsons made satire and criticized (not parodied) every junk food chain store with Crusty Burger as a symbol and homer as the average consumer. Now they took all the criticizm they did over the years, and thrown it all in the trash.
It's not like taking Maggie for an ad for baby pacifiers, it's more like taking Selma for an ad for a cigarettes or chief Whiggam for an ad for the police. It’s simply called selling out your beliefs and values for money.
You've not actually watched the show, have you?
Your examples aren't in the least relevant. No cigarette company would use Selma because they won't admit smoking makes your voice sound like, well, Selma . No police department would use Chief Wiggam because he's an incompetent moron.
But a burger chain use Homer? Sure, why not - so long as they have no problem admitting that eating their burgers makes you as fat as Homer. Which is actually pretty refreshing for a burger chain.
But that's from BK's point of view. From Groening's et al - again, when have they ever been stridently anti-fast food? Satirize, yes. Criticize, yes. Parody, yes. But they're no Morgan Spurlock, and they've never been.
And if you think they are, you're clearly projecting your own prejudices. Somewhat odd prejudices at that, for someone working in the ADVERTISING industry. You've missed your calling, buddy. Go spike trees for Greenpeace or fling pig's blood for PETA. You don't belong in this business.
I don't have the time or energy to fight this battle right now, but I do have one question moe - do you have to compromise your principles (presuming you have any) in your job? Because I certainly don't and never will.
Seems your just another narrow-minded follower.
And did you miss all the Greenpeace ads here and at Cannes, oh and the PETA ones too? Pretty sure they were done by ADVERTISING people.
And try to relax a little too, there's no point getting so angry - why not just counter argue without the abuse?
What's your problem, still angry at Mummy?
Oh, you thought that was me being angry? Naah, I could never really be angry at so-called "creatives" like you in this industry. After all, you make me look good.
It must be hard being presumptuous and foolish.
I didn't talk and I don't care about BK's or the agency's point of view.
From Groening's point of view, advertising any of the big corporates that he criticisez in his series is simply selling out. What's next, a Simpsons ad for a nuclear plant?
Lastly, from my point of view, you do not deserve the straight and polite answer you just did. You are a vulgar person who projects his own issues on strangers. Personal insults to strangers only diminish yourself and don't belong in this site.
Well said ShaniG, I couldn't agree more.
this is very very funny... bhuahahahaha... i like simpson very much
this is very very funny... bhuahahahaha... i like simpson very much
all politics aside, the spot is very well written. did the agency write homers lines or simpson writers?
Love all of them, I would love to put words into homers mouth,
Strip. Strip. Strip.
i was about to watch the ad when i thought, lets read the crits... wow! that cat fight up there was something :-D How about some respect of opinion. On the other hand, its nice to hear some intelligent debate (except for the mummy talk) for a change on this site. Lets meet some day and have a chat... oh i'm from mauritius, sun sea and sun again.
cheers
