you're right jeb! if this was the idea behind this ad would be great!
just showing a meaningless picture and place the line "creatives wanted".

ok, i'm really trying to get this.
they gave us a hint. "pearl". ok... this is obviously an oyster knife. so the mouse is an oyster and the inner parts... are the pearl! and the pearl is a metaphor for a great idea! so they're looking for someone who could scratch [reference to the other ad] the pearls out of their mice!

Maybe the ad is supposed to be this bad because they are saying they desperatly need creatives. Oh, I get it now, yes, it's irony - this is meant to be a very stupid ad. Clever, clever stuff.

Well, Jebus has right !
These are not the right contribution. The real translation are "Looking For Creatives" for the pearl and "Looking For Account Managers" for the Business Card. Mistake ! Sorry for that.
The pearl, is an image to illustrate the search of very high level creatives (Art Directors / Copywriters), and here the mouse is an Oyster.
The business card is a metaphore with fortune games that you can buy in tobacco stores... That mean that the agency is looking for winner...
The main concept is thatgood human ressources are rare.

In Spite of all above given explanations about the idea of this one, I can see a total different Idea in it:
They are looking for very curios people who want to explore everything, know everything exactly, with every detail, etc.
Which is surely a characteristic aspect of good creatives.
(Never the less: That's just my interpretation. But I think it fits)

Vive la Ad-ucation!

Sorry for noob'ish questions, but: Who is responsible for the titles anyway?
Is that information given by the agencys, publishers, etc. of the ad or do the admins of this site title the posts?

Mostly it is given by the agency. If not, I give the ads titles.

So: Who titled it in this case?

ivan's picture

Agency did. Why?

Because I think it makes an important difference in aspects of interpreting it.
Of course one can think whatever he wants about something, no matter what the creator titles it or says it has to be/to mean/etc.
but here on this (btw outstanding exquisite ^^) website, i think the interpretation is pretty bound to the intention of the creator, because here, the interpretetion is always combined with rating/judgement of the work shown.
And if you titled it pearl, that would also be an interpretation.
(I'm not trying to say, that it's not a good one, just pointig out the fact that it is one - and therefore contains the possibility that it doen't match the creators actual intent.)

True. There will be no title in the newspaper. But than, we need to identify the ads in some way.

True, too. (Why didn't I mention that? Damn ^^)
When seeing ads in the "regular" way, there is never a title. It's always 100 % up to your imagination.
So: In case of having a title, there is some kind of a "spoiler-effect" here ... ;P
But ok, when I think about it - the target group for aotw isn't really consumers, but ad-people. Right?

i still think showing the ad before we see any additional info would be good. ie....the title as well as other viewers comments.

Well, that could allow a more unbiased view. But on the other hand it would "feel so empty" without any headline...

the_ashlands's picture
the_ashlands

well..ive never seen a headline above the ad that explains the ad in any magazines or crits....

im not tryin to bash the current setup or anything...but it provides room for a lot of biases.

addyhoch10's picture

true... on the other hand noone of us could judge the ads as a 'normal consumer/viewer' anyway.

the_ashlands's picture
the_ashlands

seeing the ads as 'normal consumers/viewers' isnt really the point i was trying to make...i guess i just feel like a lot of people go with the flow of previous comments rather than coming to their own conclusions. in turn, diminishing the contribution of fresh takes on the ads...in a way youve subconciously seen the ad though other peoples eyes before youve had the chance to explore your own interpretation.

That's what I think, too.
And that is also not the purpose of this site i guess.
