Doesn't make sense. Sharpest knife in its class - the other animals are not all in the same class as the lion. They should've just showed mammals.

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Carnivora
Family: Felidae
Genus: Panthera
Species: P. leo

No eye contact.
Just put your head down and slowly walk backwards until you feel you're at a safe distance...

miko1aj's picture 1390 pencils

no, no, no. Lion is not in the class of these animals, but lion definitely EATS them. Lion's using teeth to tear asunder these animals. Just like knive. I think it's clear.

yes. it's clear.

reminds me of priyanka's ad for wildlife preservation, which i think is more apt than this ad.

"I have no friends, and don't want any." - Michelangelo

"The creative person wants to be a know-it-all. He wants to know about all kinds of things: ancient history, nineteenth-century mathematics, current manufacturing techniques, flower arranging, and hog futures..."- Carl Ally, ad exec

miko1aj, the lion is an african animal. It doesn't eat snakes. It will never see a kangaroo. They should've thought this ad out a bit more.

miko1aj's picture 1390 pencils

okay. But as the below comment says: it doesn't matter if lion meets a kangaroo. Important thing is that he's able to do that.
I wouldn't only agree with such exegesis that lion is the king, so the knife is also a king. This is not logical in this animal metaphor, and IF this meaning was intended this ad is hmm. how to say – complicated.

to all you national geographic nerds out there...!

LION is the KING of all the animal kingdom! And in this kingdom there are snakes, kangaroos, ants and rabbits...It DOESN'T have to eat them! The fact that lions not "EATING" kangaroos or snakes in real life doesn't change the fact that they are still the KING. Being the KING means being the MOST POWERFUL. And in this ad in case you can't understand emphasizes that WUSTHOF is also the KING in its category by being the MOST POWERFUL KNIFE...

plus it also emphasizes that the Wusthof "Meat Knives" are capable of slicing any kind of meat! Whether it is a kangaroo, a chicken or a goat!

It's just an ad man... not the nat geo wild!

funny, you can't get it....

Class here refers to the class of land animals, not the family of cats. Just as the other execution showed a shark, and refers to the class of sea creatures.

moresnow's picture 7 pencils

exactly! :)

When did you all get so thick - or are you trying to be too clever.

These are good, nice looking, attractive ads, let's not kill ourselves about them please.

julezs's picture 100 pencils

you kidding me? these arent good and doesnt even look good... the only people trying too hard to be too clever are the people who came up with the ad... actually not being very clever at all in the first place...

jamespatrick101's picture 367 pencils

FUCK these are terrible.

and the mere fact there's this much discussion on the 'meaning' of these ads, and whether they do or do not make sense, should pretty much resolve this issue.

half the people don't get it, and the other half are saying it makes perfect sense - for different reasons. oh yeah, clear as mud.
