This jeans has a specially cut hole to facilitate pooping on the streets without having to take it off. It answers your most basic of needs - to let shit out.

Just like this comment.

where in this AD we can see this particular cut hole?
or even his benefit? i never saw a wrangler with this cut hole to shit out, this AD is just to people who knows entire line production?
and i bet the consumers don't have identification with this figure 'man'...
or even with this 'problem': shit on street.
talk serious.
this will not do anyone to buy a wrangler... waiste of time and money, ad to ad-men.

What?? Since when do fashion ads ever have to conform to conveying a product benefit?

All these executions are trying to do is find an interesting way of saying that the jeans are basic cut. Nothing special and nothing fancy about them, they're just a no frills pair of jeans. And the logic is pretty easy to follow:

Basic=simple=the simplest and most basic form of humans are neanderthals=show a neanderthal man in the jeans.

Wow. Rocket science.

By the way I think the campaign's great.

Nope. Just an art director who can see the logic behind a concept, unlike our good friend sold.

Nah was talking to 'sold' myself as well in the earlier comment.

If my reply was to you the indent would be at your comment, not his. Sometimes I get a little confused too hahaha.

guys, i just say that because of earlier comment of 'whitespace'... about the 'cut hole to facilitate...' - he was jost joking, like Ivan told, hehehe...i know fashion ads just make a visual concept without a 'objective-subject-or-benefit' behind...

serious now, maybe i am wrong, but this ad pass a bad idea: the jeans of dumb and exceeded human been, the jeans of a neanderthal.
anyone here see yourself like a primate??
ok, if you use wrangler don't need to answer.

I think you're taking the concept a little too literally sold. I don't wear wranglers and I don't see myself as a neanderthal, but I think the analogy is an interesting and clever way of expressing "basic". And I actually like the irony in the notion of something primitive being used to sell something as sophisticated as fashion.

yes boony, any interpretation of a visual ad will seems too much literally... any, include anyone to defend the job.
i agree with: "interesting way of expressing 'basic'".
but is not a good way to convince people to buy the product.
people (consumers) should see 'theirselves' on an ad, and more: the ad have to show how great they can look (or feel) with a car, jeans, hair cut, workout (gym), cosmetics, travell, whatever.
in advertising this is basic.
i can be wrong, but is my thought.
remember Benneton, great pics, great 'way of expressing', but what happened with Benneton?
our ad-world is full of awarded jobs that just don't sell.

An ad doesn't have to make people feel good about themselves. It has to make them feel good about a brand (or compelled to stand up for a cause or change their mindset in cases like community service messages). It has to make them say "Hey these people are interesting/fun/intelligent and I like them, so I'll choose to buy their product (in this case jeans)". To me this is one of those campaigns. I still probably won't buy a pair of the jeans, but if I see a pair of Wranglers on the shelf now, I'll definitely pick them up and maybe even try them on. Which is much more than they would have got out of me a week ago.

You also have to remember that these ads are here to be judged on their creative merit, not their effectiveness.

Oh, and incidentally, I've always thought the Benneton campaign was stupid. It was controversial for the sake of being controveversial. So I agree with you there.
