You're right. sketches would do just fine without a realistic hand.
Oh, my. Where to start?... Nothing fits right.
The product art is well crafted. The side notations, though, come from a different and decidedly unskilled hand. Sloppy, not off-handed which would have worked. Good, loose illustrators don't print that badly. Then, how about the pencil? Anybody out there think that the art or notes ere done with that pencil? Not. Or for that matter, that hand with that pencil? Then there's the scale thing - that illustration is out of whack with the hand that claims to have drawn it. Concept works; result doesn't.
An artist's hand with proper tool to scale with the illustration (even if it were just a knuckles and fingers closeup) would be more proportioned and believable. I do love the bottom text and logo layout - clean and stable.
My call: take it back for another round or two of layouts. Currently at about a 70% there stage with good potential.
