because you usually have sand...THAT IS ORIGINATE FROM THE STONES, so besides that the stones never go out from their place, you can understand that the stones are younger than sand too

It looks good at first but it's not really good. Easy metaphor and as said before what's the linkage? So we put stones inside it to show that time doesn't pass? Sounds forced to me. A watch without pointers would be better (but still bad).
