Gold.

Think so? Slowly but surely getting bored of the same idea executed a thousand times.

Totally with you on this one, MnM.
Move on, people. Nothing to see here.

Clever and simple. New or not, this works for me.

bknowlden's picture 3676 pencils

The audience that reads the Economist would never be interested in this car.

elmikel's picture 1153 pencils

I don't think so brandon. This is a special car, a revolutionary car in a way, and I think there are many from the Economist readers that will buy it. And besides I think the Economist has a wider audience than top managers.

Thiago Aranha's picture 121 pencils

And I think that the ad was not directed only to Economist readers... They just used the visual identity of the newspaper (everybody knows what "the economist" is all about, even the ones who don't read it) to link Prius with it... don't know if I made myself clear... sorry 'bout that...

Lorem Ipsum dolor sit amet...

Boony wants a beer's picture 380 pencils

Erm I think the point is that the Prius is an econimical car...hence labelling it 'The Econmist'.

I'm not a massive fan of this ad but I reckon it'll definitely win some awards.

Rog's picture 6110 pencils

Diiing!!!
Cheers for that, Boony. A beer for you.

Nthngmn's picture 628 pencils

economist spoof ads are always argued against with one thing: "will consumers, who aren't ad folk, get it?"

I kind of agree.

Chris's picture 2003 pencils

have you got/ or can think of an example of another economist spoof ad?

Think wonderbra

Shut Theory's picture 517 pencils

CAN THEY DO THAT? can they borrow the economist trademarked all-red idea to sell their products? will the economist at all be angry? see, it took them time to position themselves with that red, and now, toyota, with little efforts, suck blood and sell... i would not buy toyota for the sole reason i think its unethical, unless ofcourse, the economist are getting something out of this sale, at this point, i would not deal with both! it honestly looks like those email forwards of trials to recreate ABSOLUT!

A. J. SMITH's picture 2850 pencils

This ad works really well, it is clever and subtle and willprobably win many awards.

It is also mindnumbungly boring and souless.

A sorry state of affairs indeed.

you little minx. you.

... its already been done...

Erik's picture 88 pencils

even people who read the economist won't understand this. it works great for ad people who had so many exposures with economist ads.

No fixed abode's picture 380 pencils

Won't win sheet I wouldn't think. Economist has already been taken off by wonderbra in a much better way. I agree with Brandon, don't really think they have nailed down their target.

sherman's picture 153 pencils

i think the economist has made a lot of good ads
but others please stop copying this forever.

Shut Theory's picture 517 pencils

ya exactly, thats my point

this is too easy. take what your neighbour has put years to build and settle in. this is just lazy! look for your own ideas. I work for Saatchi's myself but this i can't credit at all!
