Very nice, but dinosaurs didn't die of climate change, did they?

A Meteor hit the earth (on the coast of Mexico) sending debris into the atmosphere which blocked out the sun. The earth cooled significantly, and the dinosaurs died. So technically, it was climate change - sort of.

Sundry web findings suggesting "well, maybe":

Climate change killed the dinosaurs
The theory: Earth gradually changed in climate over a long time period and the dinosaurs were not able to adapt to the cooler, drier climate. How likely? Climate change could have come about because Earth somehow tilted over about 23.5 degrees around 65 million years ago. How likely? Tilting could have occurred but what could have caused it. Asteroid impact? Debris from a passing comet? Scientists have never been able to answer this question.

---

Another popular theory, though, is climate change. At the peak of the Mesozoic period, there were no polar ice caps, and sea levels were estimated to be about 100 to 250 meters higher than today.

---

Dr Norman MacLeod of the Natural History Museum in London is among a large group of scientists who are convinced the dinosaurs were already being driven to extinction by climate change long before the arrival of the KT impact, or impacts.

Consider an ostrich with a mouth full of sand beginning a discourse with a brontosaurus from well beyond its grave about a serious topic that the Economist then uses to promote itself.
The global conversation just became an inter-eon and inter-species dialogue. Next stop, the ice-eating amoeba of Titan asking for the heating to be turned up.

Write a wise saying and your name will live forever – Anonymous.
