hmm.. nice execution.. haha, but can i ask. Why is it that its a non-smoking pub but the beer resembles a cigarette? dosent it promote smoking in the pub instead. Cos like, i wont immediately think that becos it resembles a cigarette, it would be a substitute for smoking...

you are right paiduema, it is a nice visual, but i does not help the purpose... maybe if they did put the red circle with the red stroke... just maybe.

Seriously?
I think some of you must not have read the copy before commenting. The artwork doesn't need to do everything, it becomes too obvious. that's what copy is for.

It says: "THE BREATHERS..THE FIRST ( NON-SMOKING ) PUB IN UAE".
How can there be any confusion?

Clever name for the pub as well. (and No..the pubs name doesn’t need to be “fresh air breathers” for clarity).

Please no more round red circles or slashes stamped over the work just so a few can get the word
non-.

Hey it isn’t the best ad ever created since the beginning of time., however it is good clever work.
Good Job.

This ad doesnt really say that its a non-smoking bar.
When i looked at it my first thought was smoking. I donno, not a big fan of this, even though the visual is interesting.

---"This ad doesnt really say that its a non-smoking bar". Actually that's exactly what it says.

---"When i looked at it, my first thought was smoking". Yes Freddy, that's right, You should be thinking (that looks like a cigarette)

And after the photo gets your attention then you look at the bottom, and the copy says:
THE BREATHERS..THE FIRST ( NON-SMOKING ) PUB IN UAE

The ole switch-a-roo.

This ad has poor execution. I agree if it's non-smoking then why the big cigarette that is waiting to be smoked? And for the love of god please stop with the ads that make everyday things look like cigarettes! There are more clever ways to talk about smoking, look at the Truth ads!

The problem with “the Truth” ads is that they are filled with lies and exaggerations of the “truth”.

At nearly every pub or bar in existence one can drink and smoke, so why would someone create an ad about it? For those of you who say this is “poor execution”, “looks like a smoking ad”, “The smoking pub”.

Why are you forcing the photo to do all the work? Why will you not allow the tag line do it’s part?.

The message definitely doesn't have to be solely conveyed by the artwork but I do understand why some say that this ad is not the best. Simply because if you are the target audience you wouldn't look at the ad. Why would a non-smoker look at a "beer cigarette"? Pro: nice artwork, good copy. Con: doesn't reach the consumer (or non-consumer)

Hey " MADE IN FAKE USA "

sorry if we are still using RED STROKES or SLASHES... You know we lack of creativity...

and i guess that the FEW majority here agreed that this ad has a contrary meaning!!! but has a great visual...

and thanks for explaining for us the meaning of this ad, we had some problems to get it!!!

and Seriously!!! Didn't you ever hear about something called the POWER of a non-copy ad???????

xi, we are not forcing the photo to do all the work. To me the visual is just opposite the copy it has. The visual itself is nice and the copy itself is fine. But they don't go together ( in my opinion ).
And dude hadisyriani, I am sure peple have heard about the "POWER of a non-copy ad". :-)
But you sure know that when the power goes in the wrong hand it becomes a mess. :-) . Same thing can happen when a powerfull visual has a mismatched copy/concept/brand.
( hey, don get mad on me anyone... I might be totally wrong. these were just my thoughts. :-) )

OOPS! I don't agree with you guest. A lot of people outside the western advertising arena have more knowledge on what's going on than a lot of the people inside it. :-)

well said Mo.

i know that people have heard about it but MADE IN AMERICA was saying "The artwork doesn't need to do everything, it becomes too obvious." So i had to answer him. :) he was disagreeing that the ad was confusing...
thx folks... no hard feelings "MADE IN FAKE AMERICA"

Hmm..true hadisyriani. :-)

Sometimes the art work does 90% or more of the job. Remember " Firey Fry"?
There's actually a book on this... " The power of visual ads" or something like that. Visual puns can be cool if done properly...though it's counted as an old school trick now. Visual puns were cool once upon a time ( yeah still we see some nice visual puns though).

mo I see what you’re saying and I agree it seems to be out of context.... a different perspective, if I’m looking thru a magazine and see this photo on the next page, It’s very likely that I will stop and investigate further out of curiosity, its obviously intriguing. I don’t believe anything else is necessary as far as more artwork is concerned because It attracts attention, on either side of the opinion. If the potential consumer is taking the time to read the ad and see the client’s message, regardless of being counter intuitive... isn’t that the point.
Like you said, it’s just an opinion.. thanxi.

I want to reply to the guest that said somthing like ( people from such countries dont know a thing about western advertising ).
+ sorry for what i'm about to say but sombody must learn how to respect others.

1. U are racist.
2. where are ur ads in this website Mr. godfather of advertising.
3. people from these countries are proud not to follow the western visions like U do ... U are a follower... but they ... they are the people of new visions.
3'. who walks on the path of others never leave any footsteps ... like U ... U are a footstep.

looking forward to see your ads in the future.

Thanks for this. Can't believe how arrogant some people are. It's just that some markets don't allow that many overly "creative" executions. That's just how the world works. Doesn't mean that it is boring. I always say: as long as it works! And that's the most interesting part of our job. Alligning our market strategies and consumer insight to find the best way to communicate with the consumer. Some people don't get it... to be honest... they are in the wrong business. They should have become painters instead.

Hmmmmmmmmm, great image but doesn't actually say what it needs to, as earlier guests have noted would be better for a smoking &d drinking go hand in hand campaign. Maybe smokers and non smokers take away different messages.

Visual says cigarettes.
If I show a picture of a dead baby for an ad for a hospital and say 'We save babies'... you're still thinking dead baby.
And if I'm wrong then maybe I shouldn't have made that dead baby ad after all..
