its pretty bad....

concept is horrible... its too in your face.. its too photoshoped looked... helljust do the damn photoshoot next time!!!!! it seems like they just got pictures from corbis.com of a plate, a fork, tooth brush, knife and put it in. Its crazy photoshoped i dont like it.

I give it an F - - .. because it sux.

concept i can understand he's trying to affilate garlic with stinky breath but still would i want to buy something that would give me stinky breath? hell no. Its not even humorous. It doesn't give any reason to buy it. Now i hate budapest ads more than indian ads.

congradulations.. you made me hate the world even more!

Hi jason,

"Now i hate budapest ads more than Indian ads."
You have your opinion to the ad, that's fine.
But then i don't think you can generalise ads like "Budapest" and "Indian ads". I hope you follow
advertising well and are aware that there are Indian members in the jury of Cannes and
Indian agencies do win awards.

Hexiest's picture

Why must you be at your racist worst in every single comment? Do you not sincerely think that your review of the ad was not enough? Why do you even _think_ that anybody cares about what you hate or adore? Please stick to only your comments on the ad.

mik's picture 16 pencils

Yo Jason

I agree with u. It is a bad ad. Bad ad happens. Give critics, but stick to facts! Its just a ad!
Nothing else...
Budapest its not soooo bad.

Shikhar's picture

I thought we had a bouncer to kick partypooper Jason's stupid comments out've this website! Gees! The ad's flaws fall short in comparison to Jason's lengthy jokes 'bout himself. You're the "Bad ad" Jason - for yourself!!

Laci's picture

As I know the ad got a bronze in Cannes. So either Pijus Pandey is an idiot, or you are.

Laci from Budapest

Dalbir's picture

Yo Shikhar,

Let me hear from you why the ad is flawed? I think what is flawed is jason's eyes. The ad is not photoshopped but shot by one of europe's top photographers who is on the payroll of playboy.

For those who thinks this ad sucks check out some award books and you would know why you still need to go back to school.

And Jason, this is a Budapest ad by an Indian. So there, you can't get anything better that that. Ha Ha.

Dalbir, proud creator of the ad.

I find there is no reason for me to buy a product that make me smell like a garlic, Do they will give me a toothpaste for free if i buy Tabasco?

thoai

jasongchang's picture

No, not a toothbrush, you will get a book on "Squueze this, a whack on the side of the head" by Luke Sulivan.

jasongchang's picture

I am really surprised by the stupidity of some of you wannabe creatives. SOmetimes I feel that the comments like "it makes me smell like garlic" are being made just for a joke.

Here is a little guide to interpretting an ad for those who don't get it.
1. Do not take it literally.
2. Do not comment on something you do not have a clue about. Remember, ignorance is bliss.
3. Look at the tag line at the bottom, if it is a visual driven ad, perhaps that would help you understand.
4. If it PS2 ads please flip over the page or you will think you need to kill people if you buy PS2
5. Know the history of advertising for the product.
6. When they show Pisa tower on a beach in India, it doesn't mean DHL can ship Pisa tower. Remember rule number 1. Do not take it literally.
7. If you still do not get it, then i suggest you stop wasting our time (as there are some really fine advertising professionals who have been jury on Canne, New York etc) and your time.

jasonjchang

Shikhar's picture

Everyone's proud of their strut Dalbir. Everyone should be. I like your insight (It's gutsy; even for Budapest where Indian food must already be considered synonymous with bad breath)...But the creative doesn't smell as 'gutsy'! It says what is has to, but doesn't leave a bell ringing in the ears. So if you headed out to tell me that the garlic in Tobasco garlic is mind-bogglingly strong, sorry to say so, but you didn't say it stongly enough.

jasonjchang's picture 130 pencils

ha jasongchang.. stop jacking my ending quote... your like a xerox machine. so unoriginal.. grow up..

but as for your comment you left i will have to agree with you in some points... but in the long run.. what you depicted is somewhat wrong mainly because advertising should give people of the target immediately what i need to buy instead of all this research.

And yes for PS2 ads.. although they have awesome art direction from TBWA or Chiat Day.. i will say the concept doesn't make sense.

ads are supposed to make sense.. not be mindless dribble.

im glad dalbir commented on his own ad.. but in reality.. dalbir although you may disagree since its your piece.. this piece sux.. many will agree it sux... this is the type of stuff people get fired for at big ad agencies... if i was the owner i would give you, your 40 days. Consider this ad terminated. and come on why are you wasting your time posting on a ads of the world forum.. go do your job.

-jason

minx0r's picture 62 pencils

Just as toothbrush and tobasco don't sit too well with you Jason, neither should xerox machines and growing up, 'so unoriginal'.

One of the BIGGEST problems on all ad sites that are dedicated to 'international' advertising, is the acute failure amongst its members to realise that as much as 'garlic sauce and toothbrushes' are over used in certain parts of the World, it has yet to come into play in others and works perfectly.

Don't be a wank0r and take center stage only to slate what I think is a pretty good ad considering its Budapest. Remember you have most likely not spent more than a couple of days in Budapest and don't speak the language or understand the culture... so don't look like an idiot and try.

"im glad dalbir commented on his own ad.. but in reality.. dalbir although you may disagree since its your piece.. this piece sux.. many will agree it sux... this is the type of stuff people get fired for at big ad agencies... if i was the owner i would give you, your 40 days. Jason & Shikhar,

First to Shikhar. You got the insight wrong. This has got nothing to do with Indians. Infact the fineprint has got nothing to do with the ad except that the indian store like any dealer ad agreed to pay for part of the cost.

Maybe in India Indian food = bad breath.

Out here Indian food = Spicy.

When your guru Freddy Birdy made those ads for Some Indian restuarant with super spicy food there was a fire extingusiher instaed of toilet role in the washroom, this ad works on the same logic.

Now if i have to explain you the logic, i can't, you either get it, or you don't.

PS2 ads do make sense Jason. This is why my ads do not make sense to you. I guess you should ask TBWA Paris guys.

And lastly about getting fired? Dude, I am the one doing hiring. So Jason and Shikhar, too bad you fail :)

But hey, I will be the first one to throw out bad ideas, I get paid for that, but i stand by my ad, it has been liked by top CDs and won quite a few awards...

Guest's picture

We now know what ROLE Dalbir plays in the Creative department! Dalbir, dude, it's spelt TOILET ROLL not TOILET ROLE.

Dalbir's picture

Oh BTW, both Jason and Shikhar,

I have D&AD, One Show, CA and Cannes. New York Festival Golds, Best of Shows in US Addy. Do you?
I have also been a jury at several festivals including NY Festivals. Have you? I judge ads done by people like you.
I have been featured in Shots as the hot talent from Central Europe. :)

I can relate to this ad as a Hungarian. It's just one opinion, but I like it. This ad actually tells a short story in one slide. Good job, I would be proud if I did it.

Hey guys

Do we talk in this Forum about ads or do some guys talk about
"Who-Got-The-Longer-Penis" in the ad industrie.
So, if somebody get insult, so please calm down.

Its just advertising.
Peace.

tooo be blunt and angry

anyone can win awards.. i seen a million crapy ads from creative annual, CYMK, and Archive. and i only found 4 ads out of the whole damn magazine that are good. Just because you win an award means nothing.. except that you won an award.

Thats basically the factor.

The ad still in my opinion lacks an edge to sell the product, and the art direction sucks. And unlike ivan and me... i dislike story ads, because it makes things too complicating.

-jason

minx0r's picture 62 pencils

Are you by any chance standing in for God whilst He is on vacation?

You keep brining up your opinions like its engraved in cheese in a Museum in Ethiopia... get over yourself and encourage rather than '...my opinion lacks an edge...'.

Shikhar's picture

Yo DalB,

Get awards! But don't le'em get to your head! I never used words like 'sux', 'fired' etc...so quit puttin' them in my mouth. As for the ad...(now that you tell me it doesn't have the insight I guessed it had) I'd say it's even weaker than what I thought it was...(P.S. That's not to get back at you. You must've done lotsa gud wrk in your illustrious past) I'm guessing you're experienced enough to take constructive criticism. So, to reiterate what I said 'bout the ad, no matter how many names you call me and how many times you tell me about where your name has appeared...the ad doesn't make me wanna buy Tobasco garlic from the cute Indian shop around the corner.

P.S. Hindustani hoke Hindustani khaane ka anaadar to mat karo. Daal-bhaaji khao achhe achhe ad banao! Kabhi aao yahan, to award shaward ki baatein share karenge.

nice adv :-)

Amir's picture

Dalbir, Your ridiculous/annoying need to explain yourself & your work is proving to be far more interesting and entertaining than this ad. You seem a bit insecure to me. Since when is a consumer not a "credible" source for judging work. Since when is anyone not a credible source for your work. It shouldn't take Ad professional to figure out and appreciate your work, you should be able to communicate to the masses. Especially for a simple consumer product like Tobasco sauce. I mean seriously, concepting for this kind of shit is so easy...It's so spicy that....It's so garlicy that you have to...... it's so cold that.....seriously, throw this in the pile with the 1000's of other Hienz and Tabasco It's so blank that blank ads.

PankajDaGuy's picture

Amir,

I have to step in here in support of Dalbir. I think the ad is good, it is like 80% of the ads we see on this site. I also agree with Dalbir that there are lot ametuer wannabes who should not give generic comments without understanding advertising.

And again i am sure 80% of the work on this site is not made for the real consumers but award judges. have you seen Tobasco's canne gold winning work where the image is from inside a gold fish bowl? That ad actually failed at consumer test. I think all of us are fooling ourself here, that includes me, you, dalbir, jason...we are discussing consumer behaviour without understanding consumers. Which is why TESCO and WAL MART's price driven ads are the best ads that any consumer would understand. Now would you and know it nothing jason love those ads as they really get the message across?

Also when I go thru the exhibtion section i see all the crap work that people like you are so happy to share with the world and i know the standard of people commenting on this site.

I am really surprised that Dalbir needs to explain to all you kids out here. Dalbir, are you fuking insecure, go on a better site...try ihaveanidea.org

Atleast it is visitied by people who really know advertising.

Pankaj/ BBDO New York

ivan's picture

Thanks for defending Dalbir, I'm also puzzled by the negative comments on this ad, but I support people expressing themselves. Forming your own opinion chisels your taste and other can learn from it. Any ocassional uneducated comments can just be disregarded if you're bothered by them. Defending your own work is legitimate and educational for everybody interested. It means you're open to a discussion and not an elitist.

I want to defend people's work who post here in the exhibitioin section. Nobody is born being an ad professional, but develop their skill and taste over the years. I know for a fact that some of the comps posted in the crit section are coming from 14-15 year olds, who are only exploring the industry. One day they may win a Cannes, you never know.

ihaveanidea is great and no need to trash AotW's audience. Most readers are members at both sites, although ihaveanidea has less members. I don't think the level of conversation is lower here than on ihaveanidea. Just look at your own well put comment on here. There is much BS going on there as well as anywhere else.

On the upside, I enjoy the interviews and articles very much on ihaveanidea. That is the benefit of having a team working on the site vs me doing it alone. Don't think I'm slashing ihaveanidea. AotW is not a business for me. I have a well paying job. So for me the more ad sites the better, because they all contribute to my interest. I was very sad to see frederiksamuel to go down the other day for example. Thankfully he is back online now.

On the downside, what I don't like about ihaveanidea is that the material is not free to repost. Most community sites, including AotW operate under the creative commons licence, which is the way to go especially when we are talking about advertising which is not original material created by ihaveanidea. Locking the content in is wrong in my opinion. I believe in freedom for flow of information. Besides, they are shooting themselves in the foot by not allowing blogs to link back to them. I'm not saying this because of envy, I'm not in need any of the material they have, since mostly ads get posted on AotW before ihaveanidea. I'm talking about principals, but of course they have the right to operate any way it pleases them. Let's hope they won't turn into a paysite too soon. Of course if it will be worth it I will be happy to pay.

 jasonjchang's picture

Jason, seems like you and DalB are in it together to get the site more TRP...

Loving this fight, come on bring more Indians...they can really fight and bring each other down...

Amir's picture

Ok, point taken Pankaj, maybe I exagerated the importance of consumer understanding in this case....basically just saying, Dalbir you're annoying and Jason, you are a complete jackass.

jasonjchang

debu's picture

I agree with desh premi.
Why we are fighting each other, but DalB also I am greatful to you, you have that guts.

Todd's picture

I support DalB. First I like the ad, it is funny, great photo, i like the red on red. Right on spot. Good job DalB. And I think he has every right to defend his work. I can understand his frustration. As a senior Creative I find myself in similar situations with clients, the suits, my MD and sometimes some old timer creatives when they just don't get the ad. What do you do when someone just doesn't get an ad, you try to sell it, and at times you get defensive. So when someone calls defending your work annoying i call that immaturity. How many times the clients shoots down an ad by junior creatives and it is the CD who has the dirty job of selling the ad.

So to Amir, Jason, Shikar and Mik...I think you should respect someone who's been on the block (i do not know your back grounds, but none of you have actually defended yourself with your credentials) and see his POV and not stick to something you said and I say, that you can not judge a good ad. Ivan, the site admin posted the ad on the site for a reason. There are lot of ads here which i think are not great but done nicely. Archive is still selling like hot cakes inspite of what you think are crappy ads...the majority of the people do not subscribe to your values kids.

And Pankaj, there are mature people on AOTW as well. Ihaveanidea is very north american centric...and I like the exhibition forum because it does help people in making their ads better.

Desh premi's picture

Agree with Todd.

To Amir: Why is someone annoying when he is defending his work? Then why you reading this forum, and keep coming back?

To Jason; You say the Art Direction suxs? I think the Art is great for this ad. It is simple, and very Tobascoish. I can't see any better way to do this. And what I like about this is that this is more of a photographer's portfolio. I can imagine how beautiful it would look in backlit BB. DalB, beautiful job man.

To Mik: My penis is bigger? Dude, if i do an ad and the same ad is done by Piyush Pandey, he will get the vote, why? Because he has the credentials. If I say I am just a trainee and then this guy says he's a big shot, I will surely give him more credibilty because he is proven in the industry. Of all I know, you may be some shithead drunkurd just here to incite and insult people. DalB has the balls to be here in his real name and defend his work..I can't imagine a CD of his calibre would even be talking to your copmments.

To Shikhar: Your insight is a joke. Even in India we never say Indian food = Bad breath. Are you out of your mind?

To Pankaj: Show some respect for Ivan, he is doing all this for us, giving us a free place to talk and bitch.

To Ivan: Thanks dude.

To DalB: Yo man, proud of Indians like you rocking the west. Let's see some more controversial work.

Haha this is such an entertaining argument
i just have a weird feeling dalbir got so angry at the comments that he just told everyone in the building "GOD EVERYONE GO ON ADS OFTHEWORLD.COM AND LEAVE GOOD COMMENTS ABOU MY AD." Obviously Dalbir you need to do your job instead of posting on ads of the world.

I also disagree with who ever says 80% of the ads on ads of the world are good.. thats BS. Only like 10% are good. I dont settle for crap.. build your eye. or should i say "THE EYE OF MORDOR!!!" MWAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA! <- A Little weirdom.

Ok this is it. I AM BLOWING YOUR COVER.

jason is a loser 21 years old highschool kid at Sunny Hills High Fullerton,California. All this talk is BS Crap. Lives with his mother. He loves Graphic Design, mostly Christian. His HERO IS JESUS, but then he is certainly not following his hero's footsteps. He has no life, no girl friend, no job, is bored so he is wasting all out time. You will also find him on some PORN blogs.

His profile from myspace is here:
My name is Jason Chang, I currently attend Sunny Hills High School. I love Apple Computers and my occupation is either in graphic design or video editing. Currently I am single, and there is more of me to love as you can see. And in this case I am really really bored so I decided to start a myspace.

WHERE IS THE IDEA, THE DEADLINE'S OVER?

And we are surprised that you are a liar as well. You said that the work in CMYK etc is crap, yet you are claiming to put your work there. How dude, you DO NOT EVEN HAVE A JOB. jasonjchang's picture 130 pencils

hmm obviously you guys should also pick on someone your own size too :) ....

but then again.. i already competed thus far so in the long run

i leave my final crit on this ad.. it sux.. and i bet if it went into circulation big woop no difference to tobassco sales other than that this ad was runned. Its a crappy ad with crappy art direction, most people before i left a comment even said this ad was crap. And it is. its almost as boring as most of Dalbir's stuff and yes i know how to use google. the edge is wrong and honestly i think this ad sucks.

Obviously as i e-mailed ivan a while back i mentioned i was a student and i am. and obviously my work would go into student work. It doesn't take a genius to figure that.

All my point thus far and before i close this ad due to request of my advertising instructor, who works your professions, i will say once again this ad is crap.

if you guys want to send more hate comments go right ahead i wont read em. But Ivan and Dalbir will and i bet they would be very pleased to read what you guys have to write about me, and obviously most of you guys would rather just say praise this ad! rather then boo.

Don't settle for the toyota of the group.. settle for the mercedes as i say. So i will farewell to this comment box with once again this quote... this ad sux (notice my kid slang).

freedom of speech prevails and wait for my ad in the student section :-p. Ill show Dalbir up.

-jason

jasonjchang's picture 130 pencils

by the way the bling bling pic on your website makes you look like a queer dalbir. Or more of a nerd.. and lose the turban makes you look boring, oh wait your ads are boring. What am i saying?

o ya an indian (hindu) friend of mine checked out your ad.. he said it sucks. so i guess its just not me eh? he also read some of the comments i made says im right. He actually wrote that quote above.
