Ok, I understand the use of the expression... but nowadays everyone is pointing at the fact that there aren't that many trees left (compared to some decades ago) and that there will only be less in time. Maybe I'm exaggerating here, but it's the first feeling I got when reading the line, so for me it doesn't work well...
