Nope not true. If it was the case of protection and their swimwear then the surfers wouldn't want to get out of their shells. The shells are the protection, out of it they are exposed to harm.

I think they are just like a new born surfers that have never tasted real surf adventure without this surfwear. Just after putting this surfwear they will experience real surfing...
