No one force themselves to stay up to do crossword or maze (they usually do it when they have insomnia), but a lot of people stay up to complete bucket load of work piling up on their desk.
I see a LOT of books (student or otherwise) come in and go at where I work here in New York. Let's say you came in with this spec ad (or campaign) in your book and I told you that I'd seen too many of these. How would you defend your work?
If your answer was:
A) That you didn't realize the "idea" was so prevalent.
Then, I wouldn't hire you.
B) That you firmly believe the "idea" is fresh in your eyes.
Then, I wouldn't hire you.
C) That, out of hundreds of "ideas" you came up with, this execution you felt elevated the product/brand the best.
Then, I wouldn't hire you.
My advice:
Take out the whole campaign and work on something else or try looking at the product from a totally different angle and tell me something new about it...

Sorry my friend, the maze has been done to death. I would have to agree with Jet Propulsion Lab: take this out of your book. Keeping it might be harmful. Now, what really catches my attention is that your instructor at the Art Center hasn't give you a better direction. Is that an advertising course you are taking? The Art Center is really well known by its high standards in graphic design education but I am not sure if it's the best place for advertising classes.
I copy the 'No more maze' comment here. But I would add: IF you do something with mazes, do something fresh'n'strange with the object of your desire. So booorinzzzzzzzz.

depends on each case..
there are times when ideas are copied unintentionally. usually cliche (for copies) or first level thoughts.. such as the oral B maze.. though its using maze, the concept is quite different..
but this one...looking the year, the amount of done ads, the USP and the ART. the kinda obvious to me that its copied... (IMO)
besides, though it seems there aren't new ideas, there always are...

He [Michelangelo] himself claimed to speak to no one, to "have no friends, and don't want any."

It´s bad but, can you blame him for being born in a world where all the ideas have been done?
