I am sick and fucking tired of highlighter ads. These markers do not require ads to help sell them. And frankly they’re all the same. There’s no differentiating USP. These ads could be for ANY dam highlighter.

I'm not as passionate about this as you, but I was just thinking the same thing. No differentiation. You're advertising for everybody who makes highlighters.

ivan's picture

You're right, but only Stabilo talks to the students the way it does.

In a way, when you are advertising any product that has competition with a similar product you're building the whole category, not just your brand.

"sharp", are you working in advertising? guess not...
you don't know what advertising is for, do you?

damn, what an [edited by admin for foul language]...

I'm getting sick and tired of unverified guests making stupid personal attacks for whatever reason they have, like perhaps having posted the ad someone doesn't like. Since guests can comment this happens all the time, Ivan can't you just get rid of this function, it's only giving trouble.

Guest's picture

don't you get it? if there is no "differentiating USP" you need advertising all the more. good advertising. strong advertising.
the only product that needs no advertising would be a remedy for cancer or something like that.

these ads fail to make the product look special or better than the others though.

Would it work if I were to delete guest comments that are off-topic or offensive?

The idea of everbybody being able to jump in on the conversations on this site is great, but that's already the case, you only have to sign up for it. Community wise I think it's better not to have this guest comment function because it just begs to be abused, I think it's public enough already. Deleting the comments that are offensive would require effort that wouldn't be nessecary if guests were just to sign up. But as with many things, it's just my opinion.

Thanks Kris!

So tired of this office equipment [edited by admin for foul language], so damn tired of it.

Strip. Strip. Strip.

I’m apologize if I came off sounding a bit harsh, but let’s get real here guys. Do you honestly think that students after seeing this ad will hold out on purchasing any highlighter to purchase a Stabilo highlighter? My guess is that the product will be forgotten seconds after viewing this ad. Purchasing products like this is usually based on price points (especially for students). You walk into any supply store to stock up and you see a wall of highlighters. Unless one has an obvious unique selling point over the other the purchase is usually hinging on which one is the cheapest, considering the fact that they all do the same dam thing. Now if the product has a differentiating USP like say…all in one with different colours that would be a different story.
