better without red cloth

The plate would've been completely unnoticeable without the red cloth--making the ad absolutely pointless.

I think that's the whole idea... see the product?

you can add a bit of shadow instead of red cloth. i stil prefer without.

Marcooo, don't you get it? It's advertising cleaning power so strong that it makes the plate completely disappear. The red cloth is the only thing letting you know there's a plate there. If there was a shadow, you'd miss the entire point, because it would clearly define the plate's presence. Here, there is no visible plate. Just the cloth itself makes it known that there is one. A shadow would completely eliminate the fact that the plate is supposed to have completely vanished because it's so clean.

Follow? Why do you think the red cloth is bad?

If you remove the cloth and add left bottom shade, the right top would blend into the white, making the point they want to make..

I agree with you. I prefer to keep the red cloth.

is whiteness associated with dish washing? isn't it something looked for in laundry detergants?

Like the concept, but what about the table, is she eating on a bigger plate or something? too much white in my humble opinion.

you need a background with the same color of the plate. what would you do, a wooden texture plate?

No, but it looks like the girl is eating sushi on an empty space not a table, I just pointed that because it would de better for the ad to distingish the table.

or not??

this is becoming overused concept.

identical idea won in Cannes few years back with some black clothes on hangers (black background, clothes not visible, only parts of hangers visible). don't know who did it.

666? I just saw "'! Of course that weak joke would be better with smart quotes.

It's not a bad idea and I think the ad works. Of course there are similarities to other ads but finding something nobody has ever seen here would be a sisyphean task.

- The only thing more rare than a good ad is a good guest comment -

The idea is not done-to-death, just overused, ha! There is one laundry detergants ad also using this idea at Malaysia. =)
And, "evil japanese food", ha! sounds funny, although i can't really get why somebody said so.
