excess elements ruin the impact of the concept. sometimes the art director needs to know when to stop. the idea is now buried by swamp reeds, giant vines, lotus pads, blooming flowers, birds, butterflies and fern leaves. (sigh...)

And regarding Mrtalented's comment, I feel that what makes the ad successful IS the art direction. Those extra details are what allow you to scan the ad and read it as a completely different message than what it's really saying. It's only on that second glance that you realize just how twisted it is and start looking closely at the hidden message. In other words, it does precisely what a good ad should do - draw you in and make you linger on it.
