i think its not a bad idea, there's a trail for your eyes to follow. Firstly you'll observe the windshield, which is the one facing backwards, then your eyes will follow to the rear mirror, which in sense, also means that by the time you check ur rear mirror, you've already sped past some formidable distances.

Might make more sense if they were only waving in the rear view mirror. The way it is now shows that the car is in two places at once, but if the mom and kid were...facing the car, it would get the whole 6.2 seconds message across better.
