Playstation: Rock, paper, scissors
Your rating: None Average: 7.5 (21 votes)

Agency: TBWA Chiat day, Los Angeles, USA
I bumped this ad to the front again, because I was sent the full campaign with all four executions. I think the idea comes through stronger when I see all 4 together.

Looks a bit like student work to me. Worst playstation ad yet.

TBWA have done it again!
those boys are something else, My hat goes off to you. Esp Markus Sandoson. this image smells heavily of your creative juices.
Come on Markus! we sail together, we play golf together, why not jump the Royal HMS TBWA and come work alongside me and Jamie?
It would be in your interests to do so. with our creative juices combined together we could have Sony eating at our feet!
To all you kids out there, THIS IS WHAT A QUALITY AD LOOKS LIKE!
just step back a second and look at it!
genious!
the look, the feel, the target audience, the intelligence, ...... pure Sandoson

call me!

or I'll see you at Bellfree's

Josh.

p.s... what exactly is a psp? who cares? after seeing this ad I feel like getting one.

Hi,
for which agency are You working?
Just being curious..

HELLLOOOOOOOoooooo!!! It's 2006 and you don't know what's a PSP??? PlayStation Portable. And don't be such a suck up, why don't you write directly to your "friend" at TBWA, instead of posting such a lame comment about an amateur-like ad. Danke.

Ahahahahaha! The funniest post among the lot! Such a dumb question, indeed. And to think the guy works in advertising, hahaha!

Anyway, I find no idea in this ad. No fresh insight, nothing to make me grab my PSP or my PS2 to start playing for hours and hours.

Best Sony ad I've seen in a while.

Wow. Nice work

Does anyone know who the people responsible for this are? (Photographer/CD/AD/CW etc...)?

I have some questions...

Cool visual

Is there more to this campaign?

TV? Interactive?

Zulu's picture 84 pencils

If this is the best Playstation work TBWA can do they don't deserve the account.

SOmeone is bitter they didnt do it... hahah

oppenheimer's picture

yes, he sounded indeed a bit bitter..

I don't want to offend anyone. But where is the idea? It is as if you show a ship and say "Travel beyond". Client is an airline. Really, this ad is bad.

Guest's picture

The idea that You are looking for consists of a combination of a traditional children game with high tech/cyber abilities which is in my eyes a nice way to communicate both the easy fun aspect and the
thrilling new possibilites of the PSP.
Your comparison would be right if they would show "normal" hands playing the game, but this is not the case
in the ad.

Actually, if I had come up with that I would not even have drawn in my notebook. It's student level work at best. And when compared to the legacy of truly great work done for this brand it fails to compare.

Yes, that was my ROCK to your SCISSORS.

i agree with you.. this ad fails to impress. the idea is still way on the surface.. another thing, most students i know could do better than this..

I want to see those students (and their work) - they hide well usually.

Where in this ad does it indicate PSP? Anyway the other PS ads were much better. This is almost too literal for PS. "Play beyond" rock, paper and scissors by ... transforming your appendages into the "real" thing?

waleed@creativebits.org's picture 10 pencils

How about the back of a person facing a monitor with a spreadsheet and a pie chat... Leaning towards the monitor... shoulder twitches.. the camera zooms in slowly.. twitch.. twitch.. zooms more to show that he/she are actually playing a PSP..

The printed ad can be just a corner of the PSP showing from the employee's hand... Make that an executive..

Guest's picture

The idea of "regular games" being taken to another level (beyond?) was done to joyous perfection by Wieden+Kennedy in their Xbox "jump in" tv spots (jump rope, water balloon, gunfight, and fantasy). That truly evokes the sense of being part of something great. This is just boring. What's next? Super 3d tic-tac-toe?

Guest's picture

Wieden didnt do the jump in stuff.. and not to mention it was ripped off from ps2 Fun ANyone?

jamirofan's picture 31 pencils

whats a psp???
whats a playstation?
whats an atari?
and a tv?

jaja
sorry i´m on vacations right now
too much free time

bandar's picture 26 pencils

I think that this idea is one of a kind cuz nobody thought that.... U the reader, you're the one who is holding the paper ...
VERY SMART PEOPLE ... no wonder they are TBWA\
