No dumb ass, if you don't understand the ad then just ask and don't come to conclusions. It's a parody on the culture of South Africa, in particular the Apartheid regeim. During Apartheid it would have been the opposite scenario: a white cop harrassing black men, but this particular ad is commenting on the "new South Africa". That particular "photoshopped police wagon" is an icon that represents oppression during that era.

i think the link to s. africa is obvious here asshole...but where is the link to the product? you sure seem awfully defensive there..if you cant handle reading a comment maybe you should think about not coming here. and who the hell makes you an authority on whether or not i can come to my own conclusions?! the ad doesnt make sense in regards to clothes...even if the clothing company is from s. africa so unless your from FoxP2, fuck off. and if you are...learn to handle some critisicm!

Okay just a couple of things...You were the one acting like a tosser in the first place! Don't get defensive now because you're the one not taking criticism so perhaps you should be the one not coming here.

As for the concept and the link to the product, when it comes to fashion advertising it's a whole different ball game. You clearly haven't worked on any high-fashion ad accounts because if you had, you would realise that the most successful fashion brands do not in fact sell just products! they sell an idea, a way of life. Sometimes it's arb, sometimes literal but it always stands out, as do these ads.

I don't see people criticizing brands such as Diesel, Levi's, Dolce and Gabbana, DSquared...they all have ads which do not follow the classical product/price/concept strategy you so obviously conform to...this brand is clearly doing the same as the other fashion brandsi.e. being a BRAND with personality and not a product. That's fashion advertising and it's very effective if you understand the brand, which you don't.

By the way I'm not from FoxP2....anything else?

very few products advertise the product alone...there is almost always some 'lifestyle' or 'personality' element that is incorporated, whether it be a fashion line or not. otherwise, its just a product shot...and a product shot is a product shot is a product shot.

that said, old khakis clearly obvious brand personality is what exactly? one out of two people who wear this brand will escape a bizzaro apartheid prosecution? weak...

you are still dodging the main question here...where is the link to the product? (feel free to consider that another attempt at asking this question) i am trying to ask about the ad, all your doing is name calling and coming off as a supposed know-it-all.

how was i acting like a 'tosser' in the first place? please take another look at my original comment, i WAS asking questions and your still no authority on whether or not i can come to any conclusions of my own...does the police sign not look horrible? whats with that guy hiding behind the policewoman? and why isnt he chasing down the escapee? perhaps this would be a better ad for puma...at least the guy with the pumas on is getting away...

so yes, i suppose there was something else. now, will you choose to be a civil 'art director' and answer the questions you said i should have asked in the first place or will you continue your old tired ways??

I think the idea and the execution is great.the fact that it's indigenously South African and sells to the right target am proud of it and the creatives.Lekker

The word HOMEGROWN explains it all, if you're not from Southern Africa or more closely South Africa then its bound to fly over your head.
