Not the same.

Dzsoi's picture 4985 pencils

It's not about the flag color & shape, but the clock formed by chopsticks. Is it possible you missed that?

Guest's picture

The criticism is waayyy off.

I had the idea the moment I saw the thumbnail

Stop Mediocrity. Start Creativity.
There are two kinds of people in the world; people who like mustangs (cool people) and people who like camaros (idiots).

I like it too. Very nice.

Doesn't make me wanna go there. I mean it's a clever idea for this selling point, but a lame selling point no?

Guest's picture

Perhaps a bit obvious but still works well.

Is this from the late 80's or early 90's?

I think it's genius!

Really cool ad. Sure, the strategy is a bit weak. But, given that the brief was to communicate that you can have an early lunch at this restaurant – spot on!

Same layout as another swedish ad from the beginning of 2000. They have just added the chop sticks.

Dzsoi's picture 4985 pencils

Yep, they have added a new idea with the chop sticks. Have you EVER seen a clock that wasn't digital, Mr. Generation Jr.?

Guest's picture

You dont get my point do you? They copied the basic idea idea to symbolize a jap restaurant with a red plate on a white background.
Adding chop sticks doesnt give them the moral right to steal others creative work.

Dzsoi's picture 4985 pencils

The message is that it opens at 11 o'clock, not that the restaurant is Japanese. Chop sticks are not added, THEY are the core idea, Japenese colors are additional, the clock idea would work with other colors as well - but since it is Japanese, they went with white and red. Should they inverse (red background, white plate) just to make it different? I don't think so.

Yep. Seen it before.

The artwork is nice but I get the feeling its more like a show off for the agency itself. Doesnt make me want to eat japanese food.

I agree. Stealing a creative work from others is lame.

Why bother? A copy doesnt deserve place here.

In what way is a flag and a clock the same thing? I do not agree. I think it's a great idea! Love it!

First watching it I really liked it. After watching the "look alike ad site" I felt betrayed. No place for copycats.

Its weak. Miss the selling point.

The flag idea is a copy.

Guest's picture

Cat and a copy.

Guest's picture

Its not a great idea. They stole the flag idea and thats the basic for the ad.

Guest's picture

Do you really think they looked at another ad and the made a copy of it? Offcourse they did't. But, this idea is so obvious ,and that is why it has been done before. That is also why I don't think it's tht good. It's a simple, but very obvious idea.

Guest's picture

Of course they copied the old ads. Even placing the logo exactly the same. Credits though for the chop clock.
