the execution is the idea, and that kind of execution was done many times. a wellknown example: burned cigarretes shows a gibbet -> cannes bronze some years ago.

Come on!!! Guto Araki: are you serious? Just because the images in those ads are also made using a dot matrix also, doesn't make it ANYTHING like this ad. Pointlessly trawling through the archives to find other ads which have a scares resemblance to other peoples ads in an attempt to degrade a good ad makes me sick. If you poored half the effort you spend with this pointless activity into making good ads.. you could be dangerous.

First of all Mr. Guest, you should identify yourself before "trowing" a direct defensive criticism like this. As far as I know, we're not commenting about people here, we are commenting about advertising.
Besides, As you can see, its not only about dot matrix aesthetics, it's about relating this "very particular aesthetic" to death in order to show how both (cigarette and matches) can be dangerous. If you still think that these aspects have no relation whatsoever, it's probably because this is YOUR ad, your friends, or you are just a newbie yourself.
About the art direction, pretty good tho. Kudos.
