McDonald's: Eid Mubarak

McDonald's: Eid Mubarak

In case you don't know much about Islam, this will be hard to get, so let me give you a hint. Eid is a religious holiday, when muslims pray more than any other time of the year. They pray with their palms facing their face and fingers close together.

The ad is hilarious, I've done several Ramadan and Eid related ads for many clients and I know how hard to come up with something that is not cliche. It's like xmas. Every single thing has been done to death. And, this ad still manages to be original.

I have seen it in one of the award festivals. It's one of the best ads I have seen.
Simple, appealing and effective. Great work guys. Keep rocking.

really nice!

I guess its a nice branding ad.
Don't do much for the brand though.
Its just like a happy hoiday or merry xmas ad.
No brand association nor connection with any product.
Should get a better insight an islamic person.

: : mystique : :

Is that Sydney opera house?

ivan's picture

No. Those fries are fingers.

We do the same in Indonesia.
I guess this ad is just average.
Zipper turns into candle for Levi's.
Button turns into Moon for Levi's (again).
KFC box turns into bell for KFC.
Do we need more of this kind?

I think its one of the most used concepts in islam ie: hands, moon. But this is the best yet.
simply becuz it works.

I am a muslim and I've got it of as soon as i saw it.

A job well done Mac.

so what is it trying to say? wish for more fries?

It's a visual pun, and on Eid it doesn't appeal me to go to McD's to treat my friends or family. Why do we need fries for eid greetings? Because fries look like fingers and that make hands in prayer? C'mon, you can even have fries that look like crescent, then why not use them for Eid that would have been more relevant than praying hands. The best fries ad I've come across is Burger King's "Fiery Fries" by David Droga. That was impeccably executed. This one, sorry, doesn't make me say aaah! It doesn't bring a smile on my face, but a smirk.

You lost me in your intro right after 'Islam'.

shouldnt the colors of the fries be a little more fried?

It should have said:

Eid Mcbarak

ROFL toooo true!

I've never been a fan of the use of religion in ads - I find it tacky and cynical. We as a large corporation want to show we're a member of the community by taking out an ad celebrating a religious holiday (but our food, never forget our food, our food is your piping hot real god)

For Easter, they can have Ronald McDonald on a french fry crucifix with special sauce dripping from his wounds.

So, does the salt make up the stars?

Excuse me : : mystique : : How can you say "I guess its a nice branding ad". and then immediately
after say "No brand association nor connection with any product". Are you high, or just oxygen deprived?
Whether one likes them or not McD's French Frys have been voted the number one fry of any National(American)
brand for years. Furthermore McD's sells more French Frys than any other single item on their menu.
No Brand Association? Mystique, McDonalds French Fry's are the epitome of "brand Association".
Please do not tell me you work in Advertising.
Forgive me for being rude, but I am afraid You would not get the point if I were less descriptive.

Oh. by the way, that funny looking M at the top of the ad. Those are called "The Golden Arches" It
is a Trade Marked symbol that is recognized around the world for McDonalds. that is what you might call
"Brand Association".

good job...
i liked

love it!

Is this some sort of joke to you guyz?
i mean.. i understand if jews and christians turned their religion into a joke, but Islam does not tolerate this
how can u market such a product to such a religion?
does this make sense?
first stop feeding ppl soy meat and bacon oiled up fries...Allah knows wat you put in ur disgusting food
do not try to modernize islam...for it will not work!!
~~~~you disgust me
~~~~but then again, you will pay for the consequences in the hereafter
ciao, have fun in this world while it lasts
and believe me
it wont last

This is the height of HYPOCRISY, since McD's send a share of their Saturday profits to Israel, in order to help fund the ongoing arming of the illegal and immoral occupation of Palestine, and is only one of many, many such companies.

In other words, McDonald's KILLS Muslims (as well as Palestinian Christians). I think it's important for anyone of conscience to know this, Muslim or not.

Saturday, incidentally, is the Jewish Sabbath.
