Not the best idea but very simple and sweet(excuse the pun).

what is the name? gestalt maybe? use parts of a thing like a "pixel" to do another thing...

and for a product like M&M this is even TOOOOO obvious.

We made something similar for a day-to-day job, and the client didn't aprove it. His claim was that the lentils shouldn't be use that way. By the way, the strategy at that time was 'Chocolate is better in colors'...
