what?
last night i had spaghetti and meatballs.
(i thought you might find that more interesting than this ad)
hahahhaa!
what %age of people would actually get this ad? i know im not and even if i was would still find this incredibly boring...maybe if i was a church-goer?? then again, no.
You know who Gabriel Archangel was and what he did (supposedly), right?
I know. Clever ad. :)
Aaaaaaaaaaaah, now i get it.
nope.
he's not a copywriter at lowe?
i just googled it and its something to do with religion...no wonder i didnt know.
anyway, still find it a tired execution.
I'm not the right person to explain it correctly, but Gabriel was a fictional character in the bible who dictated parts of the book to humans. He was the ultimate communicator. And, this is relevant because of Xmas.
he wasn't a fictional character. there are no fictional characters in the bible. (believing in that is another story but you get what i mean). gabriel was the messenger angel, who would relay all of god's messages to humans - through dreams, or through apparitions.
fome.
god.... the archangel was a copywriter
Religion Lesson #1:
Gabriel is an Archangel who is thought to serve as a messenger from God.
Christians believe him to have foretold the births of John the Baptist and Jesus.
In the New Testament, Gabriel is the angel who comes with/in the Holy Spirit and reveals
Mary that she will give birth to Jesus.
please god...let there be no lesson #2.
lord hear our prayers.
I agree. In this day and age, when more people worship Paris Hilton than religious figures, it's just not a good idea to use a vague religous allusion in your ads. only a handful of people are going to understand it. I didn't get it.
Even though I'm an atheist, I do believe we should not forget the culture that was nurtured by religion in the last 2k years.
btw Ivan, just a few days back for my post 'The cruising villa' u said u didn't realte to the copy bcoz it had a mention of God, though it had nothing religious about it, just that a naturally rich tourist destination 'Kerala' is promoted as " God's own country " . i guess this is exception, though even after it makes sense, it doesn't make it an interesting ad at all. or may be bcoz it's from Lowe. whatever, i respect ur judgement.
And, it holds true, I can't.
that's ok. but isn't advertising all about what the consumers realte to instead of us? shudn't we judge ads based on consumers' beliefs, feelings n likings rather than our own? anyway, i won't take much of ur time discussing this, u have a huge resposibility. carry on.
i presume the target audience here believes in xmas and subsequently archangel gabriel. even through the execution looks tired and gabriel is not a copywriter (perhaps he's more of a publlic realtions officer), we cant shy away from the fact that gabriel is an important figure in an important book of an important religion of the world.
ATH
(Always Trigger-Happy)
hmmm...thats funny, cuz atheism is commonly defined as the 'belief that there is no god or gods and that religion should be suppressed'...then again i suppose there are varying degrees to everything...but, maybe your more agnostic than atheist??
To be precise I'm Agnostic atheist. At least at this moment in my life that is. I realize that new experiences in the future can change me becoming more of a theist or making my current beliefs stronger as an atheist.
although italians are a predominantly catholic country, so i guess this is common knowledge for them.
the agency is in italy. italians have a strong cultural roots in religion - particularly catholicism. i think this ad probably works a lot harder for the audience it was intended for (italians).
Maybe, sinners... maybe.
not absolutely outstanding but ok.
consider that in italy people are more familiar with the religious background.
agree, the location would have everything to do with how this ad would be recieved.
good point..
true.
Hahaha, cool. Very clever.
Ivan's response to AdDavid ad about 'God's own Country'
and then this post. Doesn't make any sense at all.
And worse still this ad is complete non-sense.
I thought they were being sarcastic since the cards were so ugly.
Err...everything aside, so what if god's messenger is working for LOWE?
Not that I'm defending the ad, but I think the point is that Gabriel worked for God, the ultimate client. If you can communicate for God and make him happy, (in other words, God himself trusts you to communicate for him to the masses) then you must be one helluva copywriter.
Again, I don't think it's a great ad, but this is my interpretation.
Smart idea. Very cool.
