This kind of ad should not have won a prize. It's nice, but done. It's not new, so no prize.

Yes, there was a bug for a few hours. No data is lost, just the display of comments was temporarily disabled. It's back to normal now. Sorry!

tilt-shift photography makes a real work scene have a short depth of field like it was shot on a macro lens.

A macro lens won't give you this effect. I think you mean a tilt-shift lens so it looks like a miniature.

Is this a shot of a miniature model and the rover comped in?

No, that's the technique. It's all real but photographed with an incredibly short depth of field and other tricks to make the real seem like toy. It sounds pointless but looks cool.

The technique is called "Tilt Shift" photography. It's pretty fun to do!

As for the guy with the "it's been done before" link; yeah, it's not new, but I think this series uses it in an interesting and creative way. Despite our best efforts, everything has been done before... most likely by the Simpsons... but at least our responsibility as artists is to present it in a way that doesn't seem like a rehashed copy.

Ps... great typography there!!! >)
