It's a question of aptness in both this and the Toyota ad linked.

Given that it is, in both cases, a promotion for an event which is sponsored by a car manufacturer, I think it works.

(Not anywhere close to like the left-field images of cathedral ceilings in a series of car ads shown here recently.)

The simple analogy is quietly amusing/diverting. I don't get the disdain here.
