Clearly I'm in the minorty. Because I find this ad ridiculously unappetizing. Gross! Notice how they say NOTHING about the quality of the food, only the quantity.

addyhoch10's picture 2599 pencils

i disagree. their main usp is that their serving huge meals, likely bigger than in other restaurants.

nevertheless, nobody would commit such gluttony if it didn't taste good.

i'm lovin it

Darrin Stephens's picture 242 pencils

You're making my point exactly. The bigger the portion, the less likely you're eating a high quality meal. Good food is hardly ever "all-you-can-eat", buffet style or likely to be portions so enormus you need to adjust your clothing. Fine, the u.s.p. is huge meals. But to me that equals bad food. Maybe I say this because as we all know, here in America, we are known the world over for our gluttony and being over weight. Why? Because everyday we go to restaurants and do exactly what you're saying we don't. And that's feed at the never-ending trough like pigs and consume mass quantities of so-so food, JUST because it was placed in front of us. I see your point but for a sit down restaurant, I think selling the fact that you serve HUGE meals is a bad strategy and a bit irresponsible. Now I'm going to go eat a whole pie by myself.

We hear you DS, but you're arguing business strategy (with a dash of personal crusade) here, mate. :)

darren i agree with you 100%, this wouldn't work in the u.s. for the reasons you mentioned.

but it's different in europe. it took a while for this all-you-can-eat "culture" to spill over from the states and still, it's not as common as in the u.s.

now this ad's been done for romania and the one thing the eastern bloc has never been famous for is it's high quantity of all-you-can-eat restaurants. what i'm trying to say is that there are countries where huge meals stand for a generous host, not for cheap grub.

the buttons on the floor prove that these huge meals aren't just huge, they also taste good.
that's why i love this ad.

You all should consider also the fact that this was printed in Romania, where people for a long while, because of the communist regim, did not have enough food. It's a reminescence, in the back of people's mind, that the bigger, the better. So, it has a big impact.
It is true that lately, we, Romanians, are trying to build a new perspective over our diet: healthy and moderate food. But this is just a step in the process of creating a culture of healthy eating. And this is slown down by the fact that Romanians do not confrunt yet with the consequences of a bad diet: obesity.
Anyhow, this print has a lack of social responsability, I agree.

Love this one. The other is a little less striking, yet remains funny.

Okay idea, but could have been a little more subtle, a handfull of buttons would have done the trick.

Just check the left bottom corner, the image seemed to be unfinished.

I think that's how it should be. The floor is made of pieces.

Sell the sizzle, not the steak.

Some people want filling meals and find all this cordon bleh five-star cuisine that is mostly different coloured sauces and a handful of leaves somewhat pretentious and froo-froo. I don't see anything wrong with advertising that your portions are bigger.

A. J. SMITH's picture 2850 pencils

I'm with addyhoch on this one, I think that the fact that they have eaten to bursting point says the food must be tasty, as well as big portions.

Bet it was tough getting the client to go for it though.

It's only an ad.

I love it! And I love to say I love a campaign because I'm often so hard.

Chris's picture 2003 pencils

this is great,

romania actually has something going for it other than draculas castle.

ivan's picture

Dracula was hungarian btw. Not many ppl know it. Transylvania was part of Hungary at the time.

onezero's picture 5 pencils

I am one of "that" people that know something about this.
Dracula was not a hungarian. Transylvania was "in the hands" of the Austrian and Hungarian Empire, or better an "occupied territory".
The romanian state begin to exist in 1601 and after that more then 300 years was occupied. So, please be careful what are you saying about Romania. Look close and read more history books about Romania.
