Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......
I can see this as being very controversial to some, and somewhat maybe uplifting to others. Some might even be offended. And this ad sucks you right into it. Damn fine job!
I never thought the bible was a particularly good piece of fiction. And trust in the church is so often misplaced and dangerous.
But I like this ad. It's cheeky.
cheeky...
- -!!
The AD is cold ^^
i like it. They don't mention Fiction, only storytelling. And the bible certainly tells a story. Anyone who thinks this is controversial is gay (now That's controversial).
Not sure if they imply the bible is not such a good story because they lost credibility lately. But coming from Slovakia, maybe not. Bible stories can be a bit hum... dodgy at part? Can someone explain the whole trinity thing again? :)
I know a lot of people hate me for saying this and I certainly do not want to make an argument here. I REPEAT, I DO NOT WANT TO MAKE AN ARGUMENT.
I see the bible indeed as a little bit of fiction. Why? I just don't think that all these things really happend. Think about it, if people nowadays can come up with a book like Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. Why could that not have happened a thousend years ago? Storytelling is a thing of all ages, In the earliest years of man there has been people telling them, is it so hard to imagine that there even could be storys that have been fabricated just for entertainment?
I believe that it is quite possible (not saying true) but possible that the Bible could be one of the first examples of 'a good book' a novel. Someone wrote a book that was very entertaining for that time. You can say, 'the Harry Potter of 150 A.D.' If that truly was the case than either people believed the story not even considering the fact of being fictional. OR people knew it was being fiction but years of falling out of grace and being picked up again would raise a diffrent view. 'Published'in multiple parts, 'Genesis', 'Exodus' etcetera. And with a followup.
If the last was the case, I am afraid of the next 500 years, where people may consider LOTR true historian lore, where we erally had walking tree's and evil sorcerers. Maybe in 600 years people will worship Frodo and have a holiday season in his honor with little decorated trees.
All that I am saying is that it is not impossible that history is not how we think it was. We must be a little bit more open for another theory instead of just screaming BLASPHEMY!!! I can hear the people beneath me crying 'how I dare to say this' 'you will burn in hell' 'hater' and wotnot.
Please, I am not trying to make an argument, just opening minds to another view, because that is wat our jon is not? We look at things in another perspective.
Thank for your time

Don't panic Minimum, I think you'll find there are a whole lot of people (and I mean hundreds of thousands) who feel exactly the same.
Healthy scepticism and humanistic rationalism are finally catching on.
No argument here. While the bible probably incorporated historical events, most of it is fiction.
Hey, why are you so afraid? Religious people are not violent or rude. I mean, those who practice what they preach.
I just wanted to comment that it is a bit naive, your theory about bible being the "good story". I mean, it may look like that to somebody now, but what about the first christians?
The thing behind the story, the real contact you can achieve with the Man upstairs is what keeps you believing.
I don't think you will burn in hell (well, I hope you won't ;) I just think you have a childish imagination.
At least you are thinking about religion, unlike some others :)
He who dares wins!
Personally speakin' I luv these cheeky ads...which completely ignites da fire in our bellies n da chirping begins. Luv it or hate it...u jst cant ignore it!
Secondly, I LOVE Lord of da rings...especially Smeagol...so Minimum Im wit ya!
Take it easy guys...n remember FREE UR MIND...AND DA REST WILL FOLLOW!
And relax...its only advertising!
This is a gud smart ad.
C'mon minimum you're not arguing with your mom here... Though i did with my mom once and she screeeamed... Anyways, i agree with you... even here in india there are many books in hindu mythology... and i can't understand how people can believe in those stories... and by the way i am fine with this ad... like it
Hi, look you are here for one week here now. Believe me if I tell you that there are alot of small reasons for people going bonanza at each other. We had fish-farting crisis' and even worse. So, this is just covering myself :)

are you serious or just trying to be funny?
AD1) shouldn't an agency practice what they preach to clients?
AD2) we got a page in the local version of AdAge free and had to fill it with something anyway.
btw, yes, I am the author so I am totaly biased :-)

One winy little shitty that bothers me tough is this:
If you go through al that effort to dress someone up like the Pope, isn't it to much to ask to let him take of his watch? It looks a bit off, a Pope wearing a metal shiny watch

I read somewhere that Pope wears luxury branded shoes too.
www.michaelwongcc.com
I think that may have been intentional, the watch. The man wears custom shop Prada shoes if memory serves. It might be a silent stab at how much money the Vatican has.
it was intentional but on another level.
we've just recreated a picture of the pope holding the bible exactly like this - you can find it on getty in editorial. and he had his watch on there.
didn't know he wears designer stuff, though.

In that case I apolegise. If it was intentional, than I haven't said anything

uhhhhhggg, bratislava. the armpit of europe, no offence but that city is not nice.
agree with purplepoppy there.
Purplepoppy? Ahahahahaha.
I think this ad is really good, and i disagree with PuppiePoppy in one point: An agency that needs to do a self promotion is NOT necessarily a lousy agency. Maybe they're starting their business, or maybe they just had to do that ad for some particular reason (and this world of ads if FULL of particular reasons). Third chance, maybe it's a freakin' ghost, which never came out. Lots of possibilities here. :)
I know what you mean...but really, if one were to do Agency Self Promotion ad, just make sure it's really kick ass good. Self promo and public service ad is the toughest to do I heard. If not, they should rather do some good work for the clients (or any other clients).

i completely agree with beatboxer..........if you have nothing to say, just shut up............
Good idea. True idea. That which really hurts me is connecting the Bible with THAT looking guy. C'mon – church organizations NEVER relay as on Scripture as on their canonic law, or inner law.
Don't You think folks that shot of a single Bible, without a guy would be better.

What about the copy when you don't see the guy? "If you have a good story, people will trust you." As far as I get this ad, the pope represents the client here.
Bible puts the Testimony for Jesus Christ, not the pope.
http://www.mixcloud.com/miko1aj/
yup, this was the reasoning behind it.
we've thought about having just a bible, but then decided it wouldn't be clear.
