What exactly is an 'Idea'? I mean, in advertising terms?
Advertising people have created a big myth around it, but really it's no big shit.
It's basically a gimmick to attract people's attention to the product. So that naive consumers are conned/lured/seduced to try or buy it.
To me anything that manages to attract attention is a good enough idea. It could be an overwhelmingly grand philosophy like that of Nike. It could also be cute Japanese illustrations on a restaurant ad. Neither is 'bigger' than the other.
Because after all, it's just an ad. It's not a life-changing thing. It's not a painting by Picasso or a song by Dylan or an invention by Einstein. Those are real big ideas. Ads are just... well, ads.
Get it, guys?

I disagree with you... advertising is not only made of "insights" all the time... sometimes a brand needs an institucional approach wich will not necessarily show us an concrete idea with a specified copy. Sometimes, a nice illustration is a good way to make the brand famous, followed, of course, by "insights" ads.

love the adverts, great concept...not sure why people are bitching about it. as a layman, i look at it and it makes me want to go to the restaurant - the ad's done what its supposed to.

only comment is that the statue of buddha in this particular image is from hong kong, not japan lol... its the tian tan buddha on lantau island, hong kong :)

Buddhism and Shintoism are observed in Japan as well as Christianity, Islam and Animesm (pun).
