I agree that the retouching is indeed commendable. But I have a feeling that the art guy just didn't know where to stop. Looks like they had to literally drag him away from adding elements. There was no reason to show 2 shoes at the lower half of the layout. And add to that the laces. Hey there are already enough in the background (Four choppers???)
Is it to balance the layout? I'm not too sure. Maybe just one shoe shown ina subtle way would look better. But hey...just my opinion.
And does this ad actually mean anything? Well...

i really don't see why everybody is loving this campaign... sorry but it doesn't have a strong concept behind it, I don't care if the illustration rules, the art direction is nice or not, I simply don't see a strong IDEA here.
Besides, I'm reaaaaally not sure if I like the fact the face = shoes... for me it's disgusting.

The clue to the idea of the ad is perhaps, the brand name = ID. The shoe is your identity which matches your cult = or whatever.
