he's an activist against whaling and that's why the whale hating police is using a water cannon against him inside his house.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IG7vf4byZ3o

Ah coño....no sabía.

I really don't get this ad at all. BUT I love the furniture in the guy's room! The light fixture on the wall above his bed is so fine!

I guess it rather wants to express that the people who are protesting against whaling are people like you and me. Even your grandmother.
You don't have to be on the street or take part in the campaigns - you can also contribute financially.
And that's what they are trying to show here (I guess). Shooting at all the people who are actively protesting in a passive way...
Does that make sense to you?

What I don't undarstand, why is the setting taken from the 50s?
Is that the latest fashion in Argentina?

I did a little research and the water probably represents the fire hoses that the whaling boats shoot at the greenpeace boats to keep them away when they're protesting during whaling hunts. With that said, the only people who would know that whaling vessls use fire hoses to keep greenpeace away and swamp their boats would probably be people who follow greenpeace anyway, making this ad off target as I would assume that almost everyone who saw this ad would be too lazy to actually look into it. I'm calling this one a miss.

aaaah, finally this would make sense! but, as you said, only for a small audience.

EVERY Greenpeace anti-whaling story in Austrlia comes with Japanese Whale "Reseach" ships using water canon against protesters in their inflatables.
A reason why using pissy 'buckets' of water doesn't do the message justice.

>>>> That's not an ad. THIS is an ad.

Making more sense now. Images of Greenpeace and whaling boats are not that common in North America. I would assume the same for Argentina, this ads target market presumably? Any insights?

Everyone in Argentina knows about whale hunting, and the methods Japaneese ships use to keep crazy activists away from them
