very good

not sure what it is about.
third world refugees, energy trade, sense of guilt, corruption?
the nuke ad shows 2 different sides. if read literally it says you see the power plant but not what it can also be (ab)used for.
this one and the lebanon one are not working like this. the tip of the iceberg (i.e. what we think to know about africa / lebanon) doesn't take the shape of something else. so if read literally this would say we see marocco, algeria, tunisia etc and miss the rest.

what i understand is ... just a little part of this world is over the water..... great work

the mighty ham's picture 94 pencils

It means only a small part of the problem is visible to us and that another, much larger issue lies beneath the surface. And what do icebergs do? They sink ships. Ie they're a menace.

It's fairly obvious to me, but the africa layout is the only one that really works. The rest are shoehorned into place.

addyhoch10's picture 2599 pencils

i always thought that a slip of the lips sink ships...

the_ashlands's picture 1396 pencils

i always thought it was...loose lips sink ships...

Disco Munky's picture 3934 pencils

In 1945, now it's more like, Poor manegement of aging naval fleets sinks ships.

Doin' it for the points

oh c´mon! we all know Africa is one social problem after another...

copycomoelcopi's picture 832 pencils

well, like asia, europe and america!

B128's picture 394 pencils

I think this ads are trying to stop shallow thinking like that - alucinea.
The campaign is about 'tip of the iceberg' and if all you know about Africa is social problems and problems only then you only know what your media has chosen to feed you.

brandsurgeon's picture 693 pencils

Oh c'mon yourself! I'm really tired of this information imbalance the third world countries suffer. It's not like the rest of the world doesn't have one social, economic and God-knows-what-else issues hanging on its tail!

No offense, but I think you need to research your statement properly.

Wow. I admire you. High five. Better wear protection though.

I've decided I hate signatures.

I don't like the idea that africa means trouble. Sounds a little bit ethnocentric. Prefer that one with the nuclear plant.

dave78's picture 40 pencils

Are you Guys stupid its The Top of the Iceberg not less not more.
Isnt graet but its good thinking.

addyhoch10's picture 2599 pencils

i'm not stupid, i'm WITH stupid ---^

just kidding. thanks for explaining it.

the mighty ham's picture 94 pencils

Dear Dave

You heinous twat. No one can be called stupid for misunderstanding an ad. It is the job of the ad to make itself understood. It is not the job of the reader to "get it". If there is some confusion as to the message of said piece of communication it is obviously a crap ad. Not more, not less.

And by the way it is the "tip" of the iceberg.

Now get back to the cutting board and mount something. Idiot.

Tristan Dubois's picture

Maybe some people just can't understand ?
If people think that the state of Africa is comparable to those of Europe or United States, I must admit they can't see what I mean with this visual ...

dave78's picture 40 pencils

Ok Mighty ham i appologize for my rudeness ;).
But I couldnt believe that you dont get it, because its so simple, but perhaps its not.
And you are right its the Tip.

Great picture language.

Vive La Aducation!

hybrid's picture 14 pencils

Dont you remember the same iceberg concept for a newspaper in south america... i cant remember brazil or mexico?? The illustrations were drawn by hand... the headline was 'the newspaper that goes deeper'. It was right here on AoTW website !!!!

Corona Raymaker's picture 549 pencils

So how do you feel about linking it
Then we can compare the execution.
My money is on this one, it looks so great ^^

Vive La Aducation!

johngoa's picture 13 pencils

From when did Africa turned from hot desert to an iceberg? This ad is selling the news channel....can't believe!

hybrid's picture 14 pencils

Its not the illustrations but the concept...
Can't find it again on AoTW, please check this link

Corona Raymaker's picture 549 pencils

Ok, I can see.
So do you think that is a bad thing, or makes this campaign "lesser"?

Vive La Aducation!

hybrid's picture 14 pencils

i am just curious to know who did it first ? ;o)

Corona Raymaker's picture 549 pencils

That's a just desire ;)
Probably you can find a "top of the iceberg-pun" in some ad from 1912 ;)
Wouldn't surprise me.

Vive La Aducation!

candleshades's picture 19 pencils

if it means that a small part of the problems is obvious to us
so its a lie, even if it looks nice, if the part over the water means that its above the boverty level or any thing in this direction, it would make more sense, if it means that the part above the water is the saved part of afrika it would make more sense, but then u will need to have a big crane up there:)
