the layout is a ripoff of visas 'life takes visa' ads. that said, this ad doesnt really say anything..other than tobacco may be so addictive that you wil think of havin a smoke when it gets windy, when it rains, and when you panhandle for gold???? .....meh

i wouldn´t say this doesn´t say anything. It says DISCOVER MORE and there´s kind of a hidden image in the wet floor. To me it means take a 2nd look at the world around you and you´ll find new things, shapes, hopefully interesting and not only a brand logo of course.
Besides I think this contemplation state is typical of the people who take a break for a smoke.
So to me it´s great

she was living in a single room with three other individuals.
One of them was a male and the other two, well, the other two were females.
God only know what they were up to in there.
And furthermore susan, I wouldnt be the least bit surprised to learn that all four of them
Habitually smoke marijuana cigarettes... reefers)

I smoke two joints in the morning.
I smoke two joints at night.
I smoke two joints in the afternoon, it makes me feel alright
I smoke two joints in time of peace, and two in time of war
I smoke two joints before I smoke two joints,
And then I smoke two more

Smoked cigarettes til the day she died
Toke a big spliff of some good sensimillia
Smoked cigarettes til the day she died
Toke a big spliff of some good sensamill...
Easy-e were ya ever caught slippin? hell no!

Daddy he once told me son you be hard workin man
And momma she once told me son you do the best you can
But, then one day I met a man who came to me and said
Hard work good, and hard work fine but first take care of head

There is no message/meaning because there are no benefits from smoking. What else can they do but give vague, empty visuals? There is nothing to 'get' here. Boring.

jennywhx dear
it's you again with your awesome comments. for once, before posting anything here, take a second or two and think about the ad
with your pretty little camel-ignorant-head.

audi had done the ripple thing to form the logo like ages back, when making different things to look like your logo was cool.
discover more is a nice thought, but the creative rendition of it could've been somewhere else.

the most powerful brand in the world is entirely built on emotions and feelings and not on rational benefits.
that said, i don't like these camel ads as they don't manage to communicate any emotions or "brand aura".

i strongly believe this communication is more on the beauty of its execution, and for a tobacco warning, i dont think its hitting me enough. where is the caution?

Am I the only one who thinks there's something inherently wrong with giving a cigarette advertisement a serious look? They are in the business of killing people. Should we examine the brand consciousness of an old poster from Nazi Germany extolling the "benefits of an all Arian state"? Cmon...this is absurd to give a cigarette company the time of day beyond an exercise in showing what can happen when profiteering is left unfettered. They sell a product that kills people, period. I don't care how good their advertisement or brand is.

Well, too much smoking kills for sure. On the other hand 60 years ago cigarettes were prescribed by doctors for certain conditions as a cure. Of course not a pack a day. If you were to smoke a cigarette once a week or less it won't harm you.

Everything is toxic. It all depends on the dosage.

Man oh man, now Ivan's extolling the positive harm-free effects of smoking. Wow. That's pretty brave, considering the volumes of evidence that decree 'every cigarette you smoke is doing you damage'.

You've either got a medical degree with a research masters in the long term effects of smoking, or you've got shares in Camel.

'tacticalconsent' has a very worthy point, we should not even be wasting our time of ads that promote smoking in any form, especially considering the lengths these companies have gone to in the past to entice young smokers, hide the health benefits for years etc.

In the name of ethics Ivan, you should take all cigarette ads off this site.

I'm on your side. I despise excessive smoking. I think it is a nasty habit. I'm just saying that we must be realistic and should no go overboard on the issue.

Everything can be damaging to your health if you over do it. And, can be a harmless recreational activity if done right. Too much TV hurts your eyes, too much coffee hurts your circulation, too much wine will destroy your liver, etc. However we can enjoy all of these, including a cigarette with caution.

Having said that, I hate cigarettes, but I do smoke a cigar once in a while. I also smoke the water pipe like once a year.

I do feel bad for the chain smokers. I do believe they are victims of a deliberate plan by cigarette manufacturers to get them addicted and make them pay their daily tax for their habit. It is not about the tobacco, it is mostly about those nasty chemicals that make nicotine absorb quicker and making the cigarettes more addictive than they normally would be.

Now, what cigarette companies do is legal, advertising included. If society feels strongly against cigarettes, we should make it an illegal substance, just like cannabis or heroin. There is no clear line between them. On the other hand, if we do that we should be consistent and make alcohol be banned too.

I'm for freedom for all substances, and their advertising in appropriate channels. Not on Cartoon Network of course. I have something similar in mind like we deal with porn nowadays. There is a lot of porn advertising but it rarely crosses the borders to mainstream media. It reaches a certain audience that doesn't mind being advertised to. We could do the same with cigarettes.

So, in a way I agree. Take down the billboards. Advertise in expensive lifestyle magazines.
