I don't think it's intentional, but I think the gay community would find these demeaning. Although seeing images of gay couples in the media can be a positive thing, this ad makes a spectacle of the gay lifestyle, and communicates that it's some sort of extreme measure and a choice. I think taking this same concept and just tweaking the tone and perspective might help you overcome that.
As a gay man, I think it's pretty cool that I get double the wardrobe because I can raid my boyfriend's closet. But these ads don't seem to celebrate that, they seem to be mocking it.

I dont know I'd call it controversial. What I see is a spot-on parody of the usual "I'm so bored, I'm so jaded, I'm so alientated" straight relationships usually shown in fashon shoots.
