I think it's a way of applauding the V10 engine, in other words, V10 = Very good or 10/10 therefore = gold star?

Keg of beer please :-)

That's correct! :) Keg well deserved.

I remember in old times, at kindergarden if you behave good, at the end of the day teacher sticks a small star on your forehead, so your parents will see how good boy you were...

Is Audi R8 "doing well" with fuel consumption?

Keg is on the way! :)

Audi R8 gets a gold star for being good. Just like kids get gold stars from their teachers for being good or excellent in class.
This specifically means that Audi R8 is rated "good" by the jury or what not because of its "low" fuel consumption and low co2 emissions

Do i get a keg of beer?

----------------------------------------------
The concept is only as good as the execution.

I said it first! Beers are mine... but I can share them with Fridgerator hahaha

Yeah but don't they usually put the star on top?

Guest's picture

I thought it's one star for fuel consumption... since you don't drive R8 for it's miles/gallon ratio.

I'm glad everyone figured out the hidden meaning behind this otherwise blasé advert.

Would a small headline like ' 10 fingers on a trigger ' not be much more effective??

Instead of some not obvious related kindergarten sticker that should take you back to the days you dreamed of exotic cars.

How do you think, how long agency did work on this ad? ;)

A good word to describe the gold star is 'success'. The same graphic is used on Malcomb Gladwellss book outliers.

This could be one of the laziest ads I've seen. Beautiful car shot, beautiful car - that's it.

This is tantamount to putting an "A+" on the right corner, or even a red check mark.

Ironically - it's so lazy it's confusing. As-is it looks like the car is only a one out of five, as we are used to seeing stars arranged in the bottom right in a row.

If you're going to make use of the gold star put it on the CAR, not the paper. Or since gold stars are for kids, make this a kid's drawing of an A8 with a huge beastly engine in it. Maybe put a kid's drawing of a monster under the hood to indicate the power with a handwritten mpg number under it. THEN we'd get it better. The teacher gave the kid who is concepting this monster of a car that gets great fuel economy (relatively) a gold star for a great idea - and have a real beauty shot small in bottom right hand corner. Yes - I know, someone will argue (probably a "Guest") that this wouldn't be Audi's trademark subtlety - but I'd argue it's better than this and at least you'd get the idea right away - and also I had 1 minute to think about it... how long did they have?

I'm baffled. How does this stuff get approved?

No, I created this ad, you got it wrong!
See, the star is in the floor, or on its way to the floor, so it's a FALLING star. And what is the thing that falling stars don't need?
FUEL!! That's right, see how clever it really is? It's not our fault everyone else is stupid! By the way, we are suggesting that "It's not our fault everyone else is stupid" should be added as a new category in Cannes Festival 2010.

What about "Participants with falling brain" category?

I think they should set entry eligibility criteria by which sick ideas are kicked out of competition.

Hate to burst your bubble but it isn't a falling star. It is a sticker on a nice photograph.

Out of respect I took it serious.

'Till now Audi have a Brigadier General rank. If it is a falling star then make it look like a falling star. Only 3 lines added near the star the idea changes completely.
