I've seen the reverse execution, which is ultra white, with white text. It's for some finance company thingy and the core message is integrity/trust which is carried strongly by the message.
If you're the typical reader wading through a sea of crappy ads jam-packed with products, logos, starbursts and smiling people, this ad would definitely stand out. And that's half the battle.

Wow! I thot something was missin from the ad - the branding/the picture. If this ad is for chennai alone I wonder how many people are going to understand - but if it an all India camp - I dont think many people will be able to understand even tho it looks pretty simple....
You guys have all been drinking heavily. This ad is toilet. Extra dark pencils is a dream proposition and the Chinnai chokers have squandered it. I would hold my hand in boiling water for a minute and a half if I ever produced this garbage.

If the ad was to sell pencils, i dont think it is doing the job. Execution in news print is going to be a nightmare. So there goes the majority of viewers in India. Outdoor: no one will notice it in 2 secs. There goes another big group of people. So ideally the best place the ad will work is here on adsoftheworld where all of us have time to ponder over the ads we see, take our own sweet time and then finally say "wow!" and pat each other on the back. See the fact is: Theres no use siiting here and praising creativity when it doesnt work. We are supposed to sell stuff. Thats what we get paid for. We are not artists showing off our skills.

Ah you have it. It works a heck lot better on print than on screen. Some one with the wrong screen contrast and the ad doesn't look right anymore.
