These two campaigns are great object lessons on crafting and polishing an idea.

I think neither of them got the idea quite right, but ironically it's when you mix and match them both that you get the best results. In this one, the illustrations just aren't clear enough. You've got a prisoner in handcuffs, which is a problem. You've got child soldiers abandoning their guns to play football, which is a solution. You've got someone shouting, which is a... what?

The NRDC campaign gets this right, in that their illustrations are ACTIONS - hence the message that signing their petitions is as powerful as taking such actions. But their illustrations are merely in the signature LINE, not the signature itself. Which communicates the idea much more clearly. Which the Amnesty campaign got right.

The student deadline was something like Feb. 9. This went to print in March. It's a dead heat.

doesn't matter who did it first. it's not that great of an idea in the first place.

Again, again, again, again and yet again, looking at JUST the ad, I have absolutely no clue as to what it's trying to communicate.
