I just wonder if there something lost in translation...otherwise it's a bit bizzare to me!

yep...you're right..i think the right translation is "everything goes to ashes with cigarettes"...

The translation is "everything turns gray"... the word for ashes is the same as the word for gray.

It's a play on pollution too, I think.
