This campaign is not just factually incorrect; it is also very offensive to the Indians at large.
Besides, I think it would be very easy for me to sit here in India and pass judgments on Congo or any other disrupted country based on assumptions and faulty research. Sure there are problems, but then which country doesn’t?
Are you telling me that there are no poor people in Germany? Or pedophiles? Or social evils? Or genocide? Are you telling me that these problems don’t exist in every bloody country in the world? And for crying out loud, Sati or the burning of widows with the husbands was banished from the society some 200 years back. Get over with your stupid armchair-activism and get real.

I still think sexual assault maybe not as bad as being burned alive.

LOL!

come'n Sati doesn't still prevail in India...
It used to, but ages back!

What a shocking campaign! Woman is not treated well in India! But who ever wrote this campaign doesn’t know that India is a vast country with 1.15 billion people and if you will look into any incident its number will be huge and shocking to any Garman!

I didn’t like the use of India in the headline making it seem as if whatever is said their in the ads is happening in every home of India!!

ad 1) yes girls are taken out of the schools.. but so do boys in many "poor" villages of India!
ad2) it happens only in "very poor" families but I would have loved to read figures there!!
ad3) this is funny! Under-aged girls are not married to old men! This depiction is over exaggeration and misleading.
ad4) 'Sati' is what it used to be called where woman used to be burnt with dead husband on his pyre..this ritual was only in one northern state of India and this was banned way back in 1846 and an act was also passed in 1987.
ad5) please tell us the numbers and better still percentage keeping the population in mind! This is an exaggeration.
ad6) 3 million abortions in a year... in a 1.15 billion population! I would like to tell you that doing ultrasound scanning to determine sex is illegal and many parts of the country might not even have this facility apart from some Govt. Hospitals there. Just look at the percentage figures http://www.johnstonsarchive.net/policy/abortion/wrjp333pd.html

All said and done I agree that there is a problem in India regarding woman and girl child and it stems from dowry system but I didn't like the casual approach of the ads to sensationalise things to the extent of making it look like every Indian thinks this way!! Copy writing and research is poor and art director is trying to win awards!

i don't think this money (donation) goes to India.
i think these guys will use it to mk some more ads like these....

it would hv been better and correct if u would have said in RURAL India and not just India. right now its not ryt.
Sati is no more a practice..though u get to hear of it...but its not a problem anymore...its not prevalent at all.

Sweeping statements and sensationalism, painting all Indians with the same brush. Obviously this campaign doesn't do a lot except piss people off. I give it 0 out 10, do some research before putting your foot in your mouth.

jungle boy's picture 196 pencils

while the rest of the world makes good ads, Germany still makes shit.

Whether this practice happens or not, is still a matter of where you choose to look at. If you look at Urban India, it's not happening. But if you look at rural India, it happens. In Urban India something worse happens, women being burnt for dowry. However, the ad makers are not factually wrong, because till today, over 70% of India lives in rural areas. So, when they write India, they are right. Also, it is the rest 30% Indians, that live in the safe comfort of Urbanity, have 24 hours electricity and water, who believe that the rest of India is not India, or it doesnot exist. It does, and i say that as an Indian who has seen good.
Patriotism is no excuse to hide the truth.

INDIA, THESE ADS ARE TALKING ABOUT, IS 100 YEARS BAFORE HITLER KILLED MILLIONS IN GERMANY.

WHY CAN'T THEY FIND FEW GOOD HARD HITTING POINTS IN THEIR OWN HISTORY.

WHAT SAY Helmut, DIDN'T YOU N OTHER PEOPLE STUDY YOUR OWN HISTORY.

WHAT WERE THE DIFFERENT STYLE OF KILING PEOPLE TAHT GERMANS DISCOVERED.

N HOW WOMEN WERE RAPED TILL DEATH.

WHATEVER...

IF YOU STUDY THAT, I AM SURE YOU WILL COME UP WITH A BETTER CAMPAIGN, WITH LESS EFFORTS.

:)

greetings

yes i agree to the fact that Someone sitting in Germany would have a faint and lucid idea of what goes on in a third world country. it might be fascinating enough for them to do an ad campaign about. but then again, id say that these practices did occur in India, and regardless of the fact that Sati is banned or not, it still is practiced. im an indian myself, and its sad to see that indians here have less tolerance than they should have... for sure if this ad was about Pakistan, thr wont be such comments around. as for Germany, well if they really do want to do a public service campaign then why not do one on Kashmir or Northern areas of Pakistan?

cheers

ga ga goo goo ga ga...

it keeps coming and coming. I hope Bush doesn't see this . he's gonna smoke Indians out for this dangerous tendency, Oh and India has nuclear weapons. Iraq didn't.

How is this possible?!

How can this infuriating stuff be rated so highly?!

I repeat myself!

I take this as RACIST!

I am german and I`ve been to India last year - for 14 weeks and they are trying SOOO hard down there!!!! (also people from my country by the way - don`t get the wrong impression here please please please my Indian friends! :-))

This is scandalous!!!

Well okay let`s see - remember this man eater in germany - der Kannibal von Rothenburg?

I have a brilliant idea for a anti-germany-campaign now - why dont we show him eating human flesh, and than we say:

Germany is famous for its kitchen: most delicious human flesh!

I mean COME ON!!!

And I think you guys are provoking comments like mine, thinking stuff like "o well yeah the

discussion is running, that sure helps improving life down there"! But you`re wrong. It doesn`t.

You know what would really help, rich wellfed fellow german? Going down there and doing something about it.

i dont like indian people a bit!why?they come to USA and think they are something more then americans Thay are arogant and bossy people!Messy, smelly, dirty!!!And why do I think so?coz I do house cleaning! The worst people u can ever work for! They had nothing in India Poor people!u kiding! But in here (USA)cpl dolars in theirs pocket make them something at least they think so For me I never gona change my opinion nor my mind about Indian people I use to work for them and no more !ever!they have no respekt for other people and for their jobs F..k them !!!!!!!

Imwrittenwith-c-and-ai's picture 80 pencils

see? That`s the kind of people who are attracted by your campaign. Maybe now you see what you have done, ogilvy!
Oh and you by the way - if we already are being racist - who is more arrogant and bossy than "you" americans? Using up 26 % of world`s energy, being only 5% of the population.
Invading countries on the other side of the planet like they were only regions of your own!
Most people even not having a travelling passport!
Shooting around and being the most and most arrogant people ever.
Well mister or miss housecleaner - here`s a bunch of stereotypes about YOUR country.
And THOSE might even be true - for some of you.
Well you worked for some indians and think over a billion people are the same. I won`t argue with you - you don`t know better. You don`t know shit. Go to india and see for yourself. Or just shut the f*ck up.

Guest's picture
