I thought VW Polo positioning was Small but Tough. What's the big deal about being small? And while the creative is eye-catching, it seems gimmicky.

It's an old idea but at least it's their own old idea or at least their own old idea via Bernbach.
Personally I like this execution, they're running the same positioning but with a different (and better) creative expression in the UK.

Looking at this again, shouldn't the translation be, "It's big to be small." That makes more sense.
