Nandos: Confederation poster

Nandos: Confederation poster
Your rating: None Average: 6.8 (13 votes)

This poster was created around the hosting of the confed cup by south africa. At south african soccer matches, fans wear a hat called a makarapa. These hats are a purely SA thing and are hand made out of the miner's hard hats. It's a culturally SA thing. We've exaggerated the hats to comment on South Africa, politically, socially and culturally. "Mzanzi" is vernacular for South Africa.

It looks great, and it's fun, but you have to admit this illustrative style is becoming very tired in SA. Everyone has done it: Metropolitan Life, Virgin Atlantic, etc etc, and it's pretty much the ONLY style some agencies know how to work in. I dig the Daddy Buy Me A Pony guys, or whatever they call themselves now, they are nice guys, but face it, if you make all your clients look exactly the same there is no benefit to the people who are paying the bills. The style is so familiar I know who did it even before I click on the ad, but it's the same style for EVERY client!

Only locals can understand; not enough.

i don't have a problem, with a familiar look and using vernacular, i think it drives a message to a select target market, (south africans) so no offense, if you don't get it, it wasn't intended for you. As for agencies generating the same look for all their clients, like the president, I agree that it's not fair towards bill payers, but for this instance, I thought it worked well.

Well done Black River for using them! I think their work is 100% South African and in this case perfect for the concept. Spot on guys! this other guy is obviously sour and haven't got a clue
