Who is John Cooper and why does this car need to be named after him?

To CGilb09:
John Cooper was the designer of the Mini... do I need to explain more?

What matters most is how well you walk through the fire.
Gotcha...but who cares? I certainly don't, and I'm in the market to buy a car. You don't see any other cars being marketed by designer, why this one?

There's some people that cares about that... in fact, a lot.
Just to give you a little example: Ford Mustang Shelby... Named after Carroll Shelby, its designer.

John Cooper is not the designer - Sir Alex Issigonis is!! As long as we speak about the classic Mini.
John Cooper was a professional car mechanic who was tuning the old Mini for racing. So his name stands for sportive Minis - thats why the MINI JOhn Cooper Works is the fastest MINI of all time.
