i wish i could work at an agency like rethink, and come up with random ideas all the time that the agency was willing to use agency money to produce it, and just give it to a client so they could enter it into award shows.

No kidding. It's a lame waste of time. I came up with this idea three years ago. Along with every other cliche for a business card using a material related to what they sell. It's obvious that stuff wins awards, not hard work. The biggest lesson you can get from this is, A, are you doing ads for the money, or B are you a hard worker and do real work because that's what matters, C are you passionately creative and do it because it's so obvious it just has to be done, D is your requirement for self appreciation so petty you need to be reassured daily by producing clearly obvious fake jobs for fake clients.

The answer is all of the above. People that do this are passionate hard workers that do obvious ideas to win awards and get more money and like all creative people are continually insecure and craving attention and acceptance from one project to the next. You either love it or you hate it, but based on this place one thing you can't deny is it's a cruel business.

It is very good and special BUT doesn't need a creative mastermind to come up with this idea, admit it (model aircrafts -> aircraft model businesscard - this is exactly 1....2......3..... 0 step to take).
